I'm the adviser to the Vermont Technical College Computer Club and a faculty member at Vermont Technical College. I recently joined the SETI@home effort and I hope to enlist some of the club members to join as well. Accordingly I tried to create a Vermont Technical College Computer Club team. However, I discovered that such a team already exists. It was apparently created, probably by an old member, in 1999. The old team looks defunct and I can't tell who the founder is (I don't recognize the nickname).

It could be argued that the name "Vermont Technical College Computer Club" is being used in an unauthorized manner in this case since, as far as I can remember, the club never sanctioned the creation of that team in 1999 (I've been the adviser of the group since about 1990).

I could create an alternate name but it would probably be better to either delete the existing team or transfer authority over it to me. What's the best way to handle this?

I can provide proof that I am who I say I am. If that is necessary, let me know what materials you need.

Thanks!
