1) Message boards : News : Low available work. (Message 2031992)

My point of view is that it is ok to be proud of accomplishment when a certain number of work was done. But we should not loose out of our focus that the data are best possible correct that are sent out to us, so that there would be only a minority of bad data. To reach this, it is essential to do some necessary adjustments on the side of the servers where we are getting our data from. This has a "temporary" impact on the amount of distributed workunits as expected. We should not be ignorant of the technical challenges on the server side, but rather see the bigger picture. Ignorance about anything is just the lack of knowledge.
As far as I was able to follow the conversations in the boards I more and more I see that the staff is working really hard, to get this server environment running exceptionally stable, far out of this n what we can imagine,
Despite the fact of not being English nativ, so I do hope that my message was clear and well- understandable.

Kind regards,
Peter

First of all thank you for all your great work to get it working again. Don't over rush, and it should last longer. Just be a bit more patient. Bugs happen in open source objects, it is the nature of it, but the results will come.

Mr. Kevvi,
thank you for your statement: it was the structure of the science database itself that was corrupted, not the data in it, so nothing that we did.

My opinion is to better stop a system that is not working as expected than to get it running worse. So the error needs to be found, also something regarding backup needs to be done as I can see from the other comments. I also understand that the technical possibilities are limited. Do whatever is needed to get the system running again, so it can also handle the higher amount of units worked on. Maybe a temporary throttling down of units provided might bridge some time needed... Just an idea..

I just continued working units after a longer break, now using 2 mac computers. Surprisingly I worked a lot of units compared to earlier times, but I don't think that I created corrupted data. If this is the case, please let me know about the machine. Of course I would even run non- credited test units to check my systems if needed. I'm just running the last couple of stored units and wait for the go- ahead.

You can copy the entire folder somewhere. After reinstalling Windows, put the entire folder where you want to have it and install Boinc at that location.

Thank you, now I know how to do it.

I know that Boinc- Server is down, so I can't upload my work. I have to reinstall my windows new onto another harddrive. Is ist possible to copy and paste the completed and incompleted work from the folder projects onto the new windows- system after reinstalling Boinc? Or will it not work after this?
Regards,
Peter

Sorry for my bad english ;-)
7) Questions and Answers : Windows : dropping results? (Message 203311)

It is not there any more. That was the reason to ask for help. Maybe it is lost... but should I stop network- connection now until server is ok? There are more results waiting to be transmitted...

If you are on a broadband connection, let it be. Don't disconnect, don't hit "Update" to try again. BOINC will try to "call home" periodically, until it connects. I came home this evening to find failed connections from this afternoon in the message log, but evenutally a success.

If you're on a dial-up, stopping the network connection until tomorrow might be the better option. Unless you're near the deadline, uploading now or a bit later will make no difference.

Thank you, I'm on a broadband- connection. I already found the "lost" wu on the result- page. So everything is fine here :-)

Check in your Boinc Manager, tab Work, if the unit is there sitting and waiting for "Ready to report". If it is, then it's not totally gone yet.

BOINC uses a two way delivery system. First you upload the work unit, then you report it to the server.

Read more about that here: Uploading and reporting

My new Boinc wanted to transmit a result, but had problems. At one time it was showing a transfer- progress of 106 %! After this I controlled my results, but this workunit was not counted and i didn't find it at the website, too. Is the server doing this permanently? Should I better stop the network- access for a while until boinc- server is working again?
Sorry for my bad english ;-)
11) Questions and Answers : Windows : transfer of classic workunits after march 15th 2005 (Message 200725)

Thank you for this help :-) If I understand this information and Boinc wiki right, the numbers of workunits are not lost. I simply have to wait for Shutdown of Seti Classic, when will be made a final snapshot of database
to update the numbers. But I may not change my email- adress, of course.

I already activated boinc account, but it didn't work, so i used seti classic. now i wanted to transfer the workunits to my boinc account, but there is nothing what is working. maybe because my english is not so good... In Classic I have 1294 workunits. In user account from boinc is shown 798 seti classic workunits. That means a difference of 496 workunits... a lot of work. I don't want that they are lost. Please help me to solve the problem. If you speak german, it will be helpfully for me :-) But I understand english.
