Guess the answer lies within the question: if it wouldn't you would see all of it.

well looking at the rest of the posts that's not very impressing but still a sight for people around my area.
Maybe going out building a snowman :-)
Have a good (and safe) day.

Did you read The Salmon of Doubt?
As far as I know this is the "would be" part 3 of the Dirk Gently series togheter with a collection of essays and stuff, found on DNA's Apple.
But I didn't read it myself, so I could be wrong there.

By the way:
It is written in old-german and that can be confusing :-)
If you have the paper in front of you, you should notice a difference in the f character in Saalfeld and in Auguft (--> the f in the latter one is actually a s").

Have seen that earlier, but is it actually true?
Again, people could mistake the line from the movie as a quote by Sagan. But as far as I know Sagan has been dead for some years by the time the movie was released. So, he might not even have been involved in writing the script.
--> Book yes, script.. don't know.

Hi out there,
sometimes I read the following quote:

"If We Are Alone in the Universe, Then It Is an Awful Waste of Space"

It's always stated as a Carl Sagan quote. I remember that it's in the movie Contact, but actually couldn't find it in the book.

Does any of you know wheter or not Sagan really said that, or if its merly a mix up?
(Nevertheless I think it's cool statement).

Well, so is Europe.
A more intense relationship between Europe and Russia won't mean an ending of participation in the ISS project.
I guess ISS would even benefit.

I agree. Actually I can remember that some 9 months ago a German newsmagazine carried an article saying that ESA and Russia are negotiating about a privileged partnership (or membership) of Russia in ESA.
Haven't heard anything else about it afterwards. Does anyone know wether these talks are still underway, let to nothing or if that was just bogus?

Hi folks,
I just returned from an evening event with ESA astronaut Ulf Merbold.
This event made me wonder about manned spaceflight programms.
While ESA has its own astronaut corps and has developed its own module for the ISS, they depend on the partnership of either NASA or Russia in order to get their astronauts and their hardware into orbit.
I wondered what your opionons are: Do you think that's all right the way it is or should Europe develope its own programm to lift off their astronauts. Or rather save the costs and keep on cooperating?
What do you think about Chinas (succesfull) attempts of launching taikonauts into space? Will that start a new space race? Would that be a good thing?
Should other nations develope a manned space programm, too?
I would love to hear about your opinions, wherever you are from, US, Europe, Russia, China and the rest of this wonderful planet.

Sorry Howard. Didn't want to get OT.
To connect Scotty with my TNG posting: He was a remarkable gueststarr in 2 episodes of TNG.
And to get OT once again (sorry could not resist...)

> GEt real, torture is a tried and true part of war.....and TV and Movies are
> not real..........Trust me I know..........

No doubts about that. But as you completly rightly point out in your posting "TV and Movies are not real". So wouldn't it be great to show a future in which we as humanity have made at least some progress in that regard? Even if it is not real nowadays?
If I wanted to see reality I could have a look into the news and wouldn't have to watch ST.
Anyway I can absolutly see that Paramount isn't interested to paint a desirable future but to rank high in the ratings. Still I wish it wasn't going the way it is going with the series right now.
To avoid annoying the rest of you guys with that OT, but if you think you want to comment, feel free to e-mail me at sfisches@yahoo.com

IMHO the best Star Trek show ist "The Next Generation".
It probably was the most optimistic one and I still love it for that. Sure, it wasn't all good all day but at the end usually everybody was able to be proud of what thy accomplished and even the way it was done.
DSN showed a darker side of trek with the caracters facing a horrible war.
Still the caracters seemed fascinating to me.
Star Treks youngest spin off Enterprise just ventured out into uncharted space to take revenge for an "terrorist attack" on earth that killed 7. mio people. Capt. Archer didn't hesitate to torture a prisoner to gain informations. I quite frankly was a bit shocked. This captain won't be able to be proud of what he accompished.
Not to speak about the propaganda effect (torture is OK or what?).
So yes, I love TNG.
My favourite is a tough choice, but I guess it's gonna be Data.
In that spirit: Live long and prosper.

Another site of the BSI is www.bsi.bund.de
It's somehow more "basic" in design but is providing more informations about current threats as well as information pages of several viruses.
