For what it's worth, SETI@home is officially 21

Posted 19 Jul 2020 by Pierre A Renaud Post: Also, I noticed S@h had resent some WUs that apparently hadnt reached a final quorum on May 3rd (and possibly on other later dates) so this kinda late event is also likely to help you qualify for the 21 Year Club, Cavalry ^^ Hadn't noticed that the site came back, seems like it happened Monday (since I saw posts here from Jul 13)? And as of yesterday I saw the maintenance message back when BOINC tries to connect instead of that "feeder not running" one, so I guess I hit my 21 years at a time when the project had returned to... proper hibernation at least, and not when it was pretty much fully dead, as it seemed there for a while. |

On pourrait les trouver dans les particules glacées, crachées par les geysers de ces lunes glacées de Jupiter et Saturne. |

Posted 28 Jun 2020 by Pierre A Renaud Post: Right-on !!. My own musings about the probability of occurrence of conditions essential for sentient life put my lower limit at perhaps five such civilizations that would be able to be heard if the time/space numbers were right. Not too far from my "here and now as an intermittently flashing light in a chrstmas tree" prediction, which is one ^^ Good to hear that astronomers are no longer predicting "billions and billions". Rest in Peace Carl SaganAs you probably suspected he never said that, but his last book did discuss it. In the Billions department, Carl Sagan would have been dethroned since then, anyway... |

Posted 28 Jun 2020 by Pierre A Renaud Post: Yes. John Michael Godier has a very odd way to speak:) I have seen some other youtube clips him speaking. But apart from that he is interesting and letting other scientists talk.He has an atmospheric voice that gives his channel a special aura (something I personally prefer in Twilight Zone or X-Files contexts : ) Another voice which makes me cringe even more is Anton Petrov's, but he will be forgiven as English is obviously not his first language, and he covers very competently the various topics he chooses to discuss. But regarding the word hiberation on the front page, just don't ask me about it.
