I was just finished putting 4 machines together and discovered Seti was shutting down. I just had solar system installed on home will be online in mid April. The plan was to keep my bill down to run full tilt on Seti. They are being very vague as to when and if it will comeback.

I have 3 machines with more than 600 completed WU's that I can't report. Does this latest problem mean that these finished WU's will be considered as expired since they will not accept them at the server by expected due date? Should I just turn off my machines that have completed WU and wait for news as to when they will be accepted? I am wasting a lot of CPU power and electric trying to get more work and report finished WU's. I have been solely interested in ET research since 1999 and do not wish to do other Boinc projects.

I wish there was more explanations, like this latest post. If there were, it would take a lot of the frustrations out, and crunchers would stop B*tch**g so much.

I rarely have anything to say but I read the blogs. I would like to have a more firm date as to when the project is expected to run as efficiently as it did before Boinc software.

I am having the same problems and its getting very old. Why can't the problem be at least talked about. My cpu hasn't had work enough to keep it busy more than 1 hour. I can't get any work for cpu only gpu. whats with this?

I post very little, but read a lot of what is going on. I believe it would be fruitful to post a one liner with status and rough estimate until repair is made. Many people are doing it for the science and many are doing it for credits. I do it for both reasons and am somewhat disappointed that there is no word on repair progress. I have 2 of my best CPUs with no work and some nearly out of work. I personally don't wish to crunch for any other Boinc projects. I only want to look for ETs

I wish someone would explain to me why others seem to be getting work and I just keep waiting. It has been days since I have had work on my machines. I have only been able to get a few WU's on one machine. I have been trying to get answers, but can't get any responses. Below is the messages I have been receiving.

As far as the public data pipeline is concerned, it's been relatively smooth sailing since recovering from the weekly outage yesterday. Queues are draining or filling in the right directions, work is being created and sent out at an even pace, etc.

However, bambi was a bit of a time consuming headache this morning. It finally resynced from the spurious RAID failure yesterday. I tested the supposed failed drives and got enough confusing outputs that I thought the disk controller went nuts. Playing around with the 3ware BIOS showed this was more or less the case: every time we rescanned the drives a different small random subset would disappear from the list. This isn't a good thing.

We popped the system open and found nothing loose or unseated. So we did a true power cycle - unplugging it from the wall, etc. Since then the disks have all returned and remain intact after several rescans and reboots. So perhaps an ugly bit got jammed in the 3ware card and needed to be neutralized. Meanwhile I moved splitting to lando so I could work on bambi without dangerously running low on work to send.

8) Message boards : SETI@home Science : SETI@home Enhanced 5.0 Coming Soon (Message 260656)

[quote]The beta test of the SETI@home Enhanced client (version 5.0) started recently, and if everything goes well, we may see it released publicly in a week's time.

Does anyone happen to know exactly what is "enhanced" about this new application? I can't find any information on just how 5.0 is going to be "better". Does this new application increase our chances of finding something? Is it more sensitive, do more crunching, at more frequencies??? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks![/qu

Have a look at the link below it will explain a lot and will direct you to other info regaurding you question.

Thank you for your help. I will consider un hiding my machines.

Post:
These are probably "ghost" results, where the server thinks you've received them but for whatever reason, your computer never did. You haven't spent any time on them, so no CPU loss for you. They've also been sent to three other hosts. Some of them have already been validated, many have two results back, and if they don't get a quorum before their deadline, more results will be sent out, so the science won't be lost. As the deadlines hit for the ghosts, your daily quota will be reduced by 1, but the next time you return a successful result it'll be doubled up to a max of 100/cpu/day, so you'll likely never notice it.

Bottom line, don't worry 'bout it.

MJ

I have work units that have been completed for more than a week. They
are nolonger on my CPU! The message says that my machine has not
reported them yet. Here is my CPU I.D.= 2050416.

Here are the WU ID's = 59019292,
59019303,58990961,58989033,58979585,58976658,58976652,58976634,58974697,
58974691,58972326,58972312,58972310,58972287. Their due date is March
12th. These unis were processed on my CPU on 02-26-06. Whats the
problem???
13) Questions and Answers : Preferences : CPU Fan Runs High After Running BOINC (Message 241911)
Posted 4 Feb 2006 by Profile Astro-AL
Post:
When BOINC is running it puts the CPU under maximum load, causing an increase in core temperature. On my duel Xeon server the core temps go from around 34 to over 50 degrees C. Assuming your cooling is adequate you shouldn't have a problem. The fan running faster is simply your computer trying to dissipate the heat faster. Unless the CPU is reaching around 80 degrees, or your system is crashing, your fine!

I'm assuming you meant 80deg C
14) Questions and Answers : Wish list : Merging computers - "FORCE MERGE!" (Message 241895)
Posted 4 Feb 2006 by Profile Astro-AL
Post:
When I upgraded to BOINC 4.25, almost every computer showed up in the list again as a new computer. When I went to merge them, it was like it was randomly selecting pairs. Something is wrong with the "auto merge detection".

I agree, give us a "force merge" that will list all the PCs and let us force them together. If we mess it up (say merging all 5 PCs into one computer) then nect time they report, it would be bust like it was a freshly installed client.

As it is, I went ahead amd merged the random pairs so I had some reduction in the number of computers in my list. So now results made by different machines are merged (by error, most likely), anyway.

This is interesting to say the least. I have been trying to figure out how TenaciousT - Huntsville, AL a member of the TeAm AnandTech currently in second place with an average credit of over 7,400 average credits, with only 78 CPU's that don't add up to his total. He must be merging his machines together and only showing some of them. He shows several machines with the following specs.

GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Microsoft Windows XP
Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00)

It is one of the project specific preferences. You will have to change it at each project you participate in.

I don't understand how to make the change, even though it is specific to my project. I only have one project at this time. Can you give me more specific info please.

Thanks for attempting.
