1) Questions and Answers : Windows : Was Working Fine, Now It's Not (Message 194450) Posted 25 Nov 2005 by HamGuy2000 Post: I downloaded and set up the new software, attached to the SETI project and was able to see the work unit as well as the other computers processing the same unit. I thought everything was fine. After rebooting my computer (just to be sure), the BOINC manager gave a "couldn't connect" message and now the manager has no information about the unit that was about 20% complete when I rebooted. The computer has also rebooted itself twice since installing the software which may have something to do with the screen saver configuration. With the servers being busy and preventing me from connecting on reboot does this mean that I am dead in the water until the manager can connect again? Why can't my computer do work without that connection? I thought that since I had already downloaded the unit and work was in progress that no communication was neccessary until it was finished. I must say that this new software is just a pain. I wonder if Berkley earns income from its "volunteers" by renting the computing power to other projects. A perfect example of fixing something that wasn't broken.
