As mentioned in an article on planetary.org, the signal is somewhat inaccurate rendered. The original signal didn't contain enough data to make, for example, a gaussian fit. (As far as I have understood). Only the spikes a correct.

I remember to have read, the signal is about 30-60 times the background noise. Some of the spikes SETI@home reports are in the same category.
