I know they still link to the directory...

would have been nice if they had let us know they were going to change how that worked....

*sighs*

I hadn't done my seti-reports since the downtime started.. I only really got concerned when everything else got caught up...

Interesting

I changed my perl script so that instead of scanning the directory for .gz files, and downloading them

it specifically looks for the host.gz, user.gz, team.gz files.

and wonder of wonders it worked like a charm...

damn screwed up if you ask me...

Ok, maybe its just me.. but I download stats manually...

and I've not been able to get them for over a week...

Yet other stats sites seem to be showing something...

anyone know whats going on?!?!

I'm going directly to:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/stats/

and getting:

Not Found
The requested URL /stats.html was not found on this server.

Apache/1.3.33 Server at setiathome.berkeley.edu Port 80

most annoying

and whats that boinc-projects mailing list addy?

I'll post anywhere, and I'm usually respectful, I just personally think this could be a project killer. ALLOT of people are in it for the competition, or to see their name every now and then. and those that aren't, are still encouraged by seeing those same results.

I've written the LittleWhiteDog SetiTeam News pretty much nightly for the past year at least (2 maybe?) and I know my php scripts would just laugh at me if I tried to download 160 megs.

So if you could pass on that mailing list addy, I'll add my 2 cents, hopefully bringing this issue to someones attention

Actually, even 1-2 megs per file isn't a really good answer.

Shoot, I download 7 team stats once a day, and then, at non-peak hours.

those 7 team stats, mine, and 3 on either side of me (to watch the competition)
now if those 7 teams are not within x number of id's with each other, I'm looking at 7-14 megs alone. Not counting the fact that there is no team_standings list that I can reference to even know which teams are around me. So that would mean I have to download ALL the files just to find that out.

And I wont even get INTO all the seti-banners out there that simply provide individual user stats. PHP wont parse a 158 meg file to grab 3 lines of stats.

Something has to be done or all those small stats/news/etc pages out there, which REALLY encourage their users, and make the whole project fun, are going to die out.

I think they still need stats divided into individual teams, perhaps each 100 teams in a different directory?!?! and large files for those LARGE sites that need all the data?

All I know right now is that the current system is NOT going to work.

(sorry, I've written the setinews for my team for almost 2 years, and I don't even have a clue where to start with the stuff I'm seeing now, and I know how many members of my team crunch simply because of the news (or so they tell me) )

ok..

let me get this straight. instead of downloading a max of a 15k xml file, I instead have to download a team.xml.gz file, and the user.xml.gz file, the sum of which was over 160 MEGS?!?!

You have GOT to be kidding me?!?! how is this going to save bandwidth?!?! I update once, once a day, and it was being run from a web-based PHP script that downloaded, parsed, and processed everything in under a minute. NOW I'm going to have to spend over an hour a shot, and download NOT just the data I need, but the data for EVERY other team and EVERY other user in the system?!?!? Whats wrong with this picture? Wanna cut back on bandwidth?

I say emphatically that bandwidth doesn't grow on trees, and this is going to KILL the setinews I write every night. Shoot, that news is the reason HALF my team crunches. Don't shoot us (or yourselves) in the foot. Come up with a better solution!
