I simply re-ran the lunatics installer and unchecked the options for running AP on the GPU. I can still run AP on my CPU and leave the GPU to run normal S@H tasks which is fine for me.

I am running a 9800GT and the Nvidia 340.52 drivers. I noticed three AP tasks that quickly errored out when using the GPU. My normal S@H tasks seem to be working fine. So it seems I have the problem that is described in this thread.

Trouble is, I have never had anything but pain when it comes to downgrading video card drivers. I do not want to downgrade just for this. Is there a way to stop using the GPU for AP tasks while still allowing it to be used for S@H?

You know, I have a Boincstats account and for some reason I couldn't find that.

Hmm...doing the math it seems I'm in the top 1/2 percent of all SETI crunchers by RAC. That...doesn't seem right.

Looks like I am in the top 25% for RAC (yay!), but how far am I from getting the 10% badge? I can't seem to find that out. Any suggestions? Thanks!

As you can see, my Android is not doing to well with Seti@home workunits. It seems to do better with WCG and other projects, but Seti keeps having errors.

Any thoughts?

The latest newsletter mentioned SERENDIP VI, but I can only find tech specs up to SERENDIP V on the web. Anybody have any idea how much stronger VI will be compared to V?

Oh and another thing I've noticed. I just upgraded to a Galaxy Note 2, with a quad-core chip. At full tilt, the wall charger simply cannot provide enough juice to keep the phone at 100% while running BOINC on all four cores.

Still, running one or two cores is better than nothing. Running fewer cores helps keep the temp down too.

I think I found part of the problem. Most crashes occur when the app suspends / resumes a task.

I did not want my phone getting too hot, so I set it to suspend when the battery temp reached 30c. Trouble is that at night even when I'm not using it, running certain tasks would cause it to go over 30c. So it would suspend and resume all night long. This is when most of the errors took place.

By setting it to run constantly, it seemed to run smoothly...albeit a little hot.

I know what a UFO is and have taken a photo of one. The RAF does not think of them as being of alien origin. This is what I meant. I should have explained it better.
Tullio

I think this is a very important distinction to make, that many people have forgotten about. UFO means, literally, Unidentified Flying Object. That's all. It doesn't automatically mean an alien spacecraft. A UFO could be a plane that is masked by clouds or reflecting the sunlight a certain way. It could be a cloud, or a bird, or a flock of birds, or anything really.

That said, I believe in UFOs. There are hundreds of things in the sky I can't always identify. Hell, one night a few years back I took a pic of an orange light flying patterns in the sky with no noise, no typical running lights, or anything. Turns out it was a candle kite, but at first it was a UFO because I didn't know what the hell it was.

So do I believe in UFOs? You bet. Do I believe they're alien spacecraft? No. Do I believe aliens visited Earth? I've seen no evidence of that.

Do I believe the government might want to cover up such a thing? Possibly, but with the millions of cameras, telescopes and radars belonging to private citizens and professional scientists watching the skies...something should have been seen by now. And good luck having any one national government try to silence something like that.

Unfortunately I am not good at computations or anything to do with computer programs. I am a layman. I joined because I believe the S.E.T.I. project is on the right track and will be the first to discover that we have other life in the universe. It is fun to watch how much gets done by me doing little to nothing. Can you explain what a signal would most likely look like?

A small spike on a graph.

Thanks for the heads up! Question about the future of SETI@home, if you have a moment.

Every so often a new version of S@H comes out with increased sensitivity or a new type of search. Wouldn't it be easier to simply release a version of S@H that has it's sensitivity cranked up to the limits of the sensitivity of Arecibo, rather than ratcheting it up every couple years?
