Interesting. Given that I used the installer, rather than do it manually, I ass-umed all would be well. :-)

The file you mentioned is in the folder, and I have made no changes to it I'm a ColdFusion guy, not XML). Should I remove the <app> - </app-version> statements in the middle of the file that refer to astropulse_v5 and astropulse_5.03_powerpc-apple-darwin?

I also noticed that the last chunk appears to need an update...

        <app>
                <name>astropulse_v505</name>
        </app>
        <file_info>
                <name>astropulse_5.06_powerpc-apple-darwin</name>
                <executable/>
        </file_info>
     <app_version>
         <app_name>astropulse_v505</app_name>
         <version_num>505</version_num>
         <file_ref>
                <file_name>astropulse_5.06_powerpc-apple-darwin</file_name>
                <main_program/>
         </file_ref>
     </app_version>

<app><name> refers to v505, while <file_info><name> refers to 5.06. Or doesn't that matter.

Thanks.

Installed this (5.06) tonight with your included installer. All appeared to go well - no errors. Restarted BOINC, and instead of running like a good little program the silly thing keeps trying to download astropulse_5.03_powerpc-apple-darwin.

Thoughts appreciated.

About 2 or 3 days ago I started getting the following...
8/19/2008 18:31:08|SETI@home|Task ap_01mr08aa_B0_P1_00722_20080818_30085.wu_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
8/19/2008 18:31:08|SETI@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.

etc., etc. It's failing on every task, not just the AP.

I have updated the run, reset the project, updated the software to .18, and even completely deleted BOINC, reinstalled, and reattached to the project. No luck.

Interesting thing is (maybe), it's only happening on one of my systems, and only the one running AP tasks. The system is a Core2 Quad running the standard software, no optimized, and XP Pro.

Thoughts appreciated.
25) Questions and Answers : Windows : AstroPulse 4.35 Credit (Message 798632)

As you look to be new at this I shall explain. First: if I didnt want to be doing this, I would not. Had over 12,000 WUs before they ever went to the credit thing. Second: what the credits do is let us have more fun and do more then just let the computer work. With credits, we can make teams and then compete with other teams and so on. Thus taking something rather mundane (crunching numbers) and making it fun. Third: it is also a motivator. How high can I get my RAC so that our team can beat that other team!!!! This makes me and others like me, want to crunch more. Thus doing more good for SETI. I hope that this has been helpful in understanding the mind of a person who worries about credits.

FWIW, I agree with your points 100%. Yes, I also do this because I believe that 'we are not alone', but the points you bring up are also a big part of it.

Unfortunately, the current server problems have me thinking of going elsewhere. I've never seen things this bad. Less than 2 months ago my RAC was over 3,600. As I write this it's less than 2,000. No fun.

For doubters, just check to the left and see how long I've been around...

My RAC has dropped well over 1,000 recently. My first AP unit blew up sometime during the night and actually forced a reboot of the computer on its own. Got up to find that WU gone, not to mention the credit.

It's beginning to be no fun any more.

But they are worth more credit than the S@H tasks - your RAC will recover.

Hopefully so. And it seems the estimate has changed to 32 hours, not 37 as I originally posted (or maybe my glasses were dirty!).

Well, scratch that, too. Both of the AP units are now running and the guess has gone up to 40+ hours. Think I'll take a nap...

Impressive list of projects, John!

Got a couple AP units on one of my PCs a few hours ago. Instead of the usual roughly 1/2 hour - 3 hour completion time, these are calling for almost 37 hours each!

Where is the guy who casually mentioned there would be a 'slight' (I think that was it) increase in time/unit? With the continual server problems and my RAC still taking a nosedive, this should put it into the basement.

Ah, well - what we all do for science...

It took that command (I added a '*' at the end of the string). I had also tried the Finder route, but couldn't find owner and group info - just Sharing & Permissions. There it has boinc_master listed twice, both as Read & Write.

Yes, this could also be. It's OK.
If you start the BOINC client again and there is an permition error the BOINC client would show this...

Thanks. No errors when I restarted, so - if I could get some WU (both Mac and PC at home are now empty) - all is apparently well.

Got it. Thanks.

As for the 'heads' - now I got that, too. For /projects/, Owner and Group are both RW, Everyone is R.

eventualy a "sudo chown: /Library/Application\ Support/BOINC\ Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/" would help. - But it also easly posible to do this action with the finder by selecting the directory, press APPLE+I and change the owner and the group.

There is a server problem going on in the moment. I got a astropulse WU some hours ago. But my other system did not get any WUs...

chown boinc_master:boinc_project /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/*

chown boinc_master:boinc_project /Library/Application\ Support/BOINC\ Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/*

You need to add a few of these --> ' \ ' ... ;)

Thanks very much, Jeffrey. Knew it was something like that, but couldn't remember the syntax (age-related?). :-)

I let it run all night as it was. This morning it started picking up some units to work on, but just a very few (my PC here has over 20 in the queue!). It just ran out of the tasks it got and is back to getting none again...

Sun Aug 3 08:21:05 2008|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Requesting 57504 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
Sun Aug 3 08:21:10 2008|SETI@home|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks

BTW, I ran the command you posted and got...

chown: /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/08jn08aa.10332.12342.8.8.234_1_0: Operation not permitted

Further thoughts?

Thanks.

Followed the instructions and copied everything to the proper directory. When trying the chown boinc_master:boinc_project /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/* command in Terminal it returned...

Macintosh:~ john$ chown boinc_master:boinc_project /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/*
chown: /Library/Application: No such file or directory
chown: Support/BOINC: No such file or directory
chown: Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/*: No such file or directory

Appears it doesn't like the spaces in that command.

I'm using the PPC version for a Dual G5.

Restarted BOINC and updated the project anyway, but I'm still not getting anything.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

My RAC seems to be growing nicely. From around 2600 it dropped to 1800 with this problem and now stands at 2940. :)

Mine is still going down. It was >3,600 less than a month ago, hit <2,500 2 weeks after that when the problems started, went back up to >3,100 after the server fix, and now is on the way down again - more server problems...
Sun Jul 27 16:52:10 2008||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
Sun Jul 27 16:52:11 2008||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down.
Sun Jul 27 16:52:14 2008|SETI@home|Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server

It's getting very discouraging...

If this is related to a server issue, seti@home will miss the processing from the "run boinc and forget about it" crowd.

I completely agree with that. I check my systems every day just to make sure all is well.

As to the optimized version, it's still running fine here, even though the server problem seems to be back. Unfortunately, I'm not happy with the slow recovery of my RAC, but at least it's running.

You didn't read what's here before you posted, Walt. :-) Yeah, I know - it's a lot!

Specifically, take a look at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=48227#785929. Worked for me, and a lot of others here.

Running optimized, G5 Dual 2GHz, any ideas on how long it might take to see an upturn in the RAC? My stats graph is still showing a downhill run.

Update your boinc manager, they have fixed the Mac problem...

The site still shows 5.10.45, the 'old' version. Has it really been updated with the same version number?

Thanks.

Don't know who runs the weather station here, but I never see a temp right at what I have.

My stuff rarely agrees with stations close to me as well. But in my area the conditions can change from one block to the next, anyway. It's really strange up here.

Depending on the machine you can see anywhere from 25% to a 50% improvement.

The first 4 tasks it got were originally expected to take 1:33 each. Two are already done, the next 2 almost. Actual time will be ~1:00 each. Nifty!

Don't you run a weather station down there, arkayn? Golden Valley rings a bell. If so (or not - whatever), I run http://tiggrweather.net/ in Phoenix.
