Lot of weather on the horizon, Hilary is not here yet. But great pre-dawn light show.

Pouring rain here.

Looking at one readily available source for lakes & major reservoirs in CA it would appear that very few have much space to absorb much more rainfall, so it's more a case of how much rain will land where the ground can soak it up rather than just have the rain run off and either cause floods or wash-outs & landslides.

In California, not much. Most are already full. I have been seeing what appears to be an 8-10 inch rise in the river levels which tells me that they are letting water out to make room. The current levels are shown below. The biggest impact will be to lake made. USGS expects an 8-foot water level increase. But there is a lot of room in that one.

Of what lands on my property, IIRC the flood control channel from here does end up at Whittier Narrows, so it will be in a spreading basin. (Don't know what the corps of engineers is doing with the flood gates though) Of what lands north of me, San Gabriel Mountains, essentially all of it passes through various debris catch basins, dams and spreading grounds before it reaches the ocean. Of what lands to the south of me, little of it will be captured as there are no areas where the water can be impounded as it is an alluvial plain, nor is urban run off uncontaminated, especially with massive filthy homeless encampments in the normally bone dry stream beds. But this is the topography of the Los Angeles basin, which is really not a complete basin, but half a basin with the other half side being the Pacific Ocean.

It’s 74F here, this area has received 0.33” of rain(0.37" now) and it’s light rain on Monday I’ll know the total for this area, I’ve seen worse hit here, this is nothing.

Grace, Sylvester, Chitty, and myself are ok.

Hilary’s rain, 0.33” so far(0.37" now) and 74F, Precip 100%.

That’s Elephant Mountain in the distance, it’s the magma chamber of an extinct volcano...

Info about Lake Mead, in case anyone is curious.

Winning on a Monday morning with no rain, but we did had a frost.

We got off to a 0C (felt like -3C) while 18C is expected and currently it's 10C (feels like 8C) so it'll likely be another hour before I go outside to continue digging.

Cheers.

Over here...

"That lot of clouds" stayed benignly fluffy for the day and developed into making for a fantastic sunset display.

Beautiful!!

Enjoy!

As I take a quick beer break to cool down after digging a dozen or so bricks levelly into the ground (which is much softer today) as the temp here hits 16C (feels like 13C), but it feels a lot warmer than that hacking at the ground out in the sun.

Cheers.

We reached 18C (felt like 14C) here today while I was working away outside, but it's dropping now.

Though I did get both big wicking tubs sitting level now. :-)

Time for a beer or 2 now before feeding Dog, covering my veggies back up and then think about something to eat.

Cheers.

This area received 2.05 inches of rain as of yesterday, today it's 1.85 inches.

I'm still here, intact waiting to get my car worked on, now if Casey's will call me back soon.
