Water Pipe.

Time to Lay Pipe from Where there is an Abundance of Water to Places Constantly in Need of Water.

Why this Has NOT been Done Many Many Many Decades Ago with Continual New Pipe as Other Water
Sources become Available is a SUPERHeadScratcher.

Southwest and West Need Water and As a Certain Prez likes to Say: 'NOW NOW NOW'.

Get er Done America. Money is No Problem.

Now

Strangely...

That has been done for oil and gas with some of the biggest/longest pipes in the world...

Why?... How?...

And note how the Romans were famous for their tremendous aqueducts that for some, even carried the water across (under/over) deserts. That was from 2000 years ago!...

And then we have Flint, USA...

How? Why??

Stay safe folks!

For many years the Zanja Madre supplied Los Angeles will all the water it needed. Then developers came. William Mulholland came and with Fredrick Eaton bought up all the water rights in the Eastern Sierra and built an aqueduct to give water to all the people the developers moved in. It wasn't enough so William Mulholland built the St. Francis Dam on the Santa Paula river. Developers kept up and soon the Metropolitan Water District was formed and built an aqueduct from the Colorado River to quench the thirst. Again developers did their thing. The state of California built the California Aqueduct to drain the rivers of the central valley to supply Los Angeles. Again the developers did their thing. The only water source left within 500 miles is the Pacific Ocean. Developers still do their thing. The globe warms.

Yep a pipe will never work as demand will always outstrip the supplies and you'll just cause more problems elsewhere. People are just going to have to learn to live with what they have and make it last.

That's getting to be a bigger problem these days, some people just don't think of the repercussions for others with these hair brained ideas so long as they're ok. :-(

You'd be better off replacing all those oversized toilet systems that you folks over there use for starters, now that will save a lot of water. ;-)

Our 6 families of local ex-pat U.S. citizens just couldn't believe that our little 1's do work with big #2's just as well as those huge jobs over there do, but then again they found out that there's quite a few things that are done much differently down here (though they have quickly adjusted to our little quirks). Now if we can just convince them that they don't need those oversized fuel guzzling U.S. trucks to get about in then they'll be totally converted (they'll also find out that parking in town will be much easier too).

Yep that covers the last 5yrs in that state, but what has been done with those huge jobs sold and installed before 2016?

Have there been orders to retrofit those old things that don't comply?

Also remember that this doesn't just involve California, so what have those other states done?

The combination of farmers continuing to irrigate high water need crops and gas fracking doesn't help either. The 1st just wastes water while the 2nd adds contamination to the list.

Where will it all end, with the Great Lakes being drained with that now wet region becoming dry just to satisfy more waste of a decreasing resource somewhere else?

https://www.upnest.com/1/post/civil-code-section-1101-3/
Civil Code Section 1101.3. As of 2017, it requires you to replace any outdated plumbing fixtures in your home with water-conserving models.
Civil Code Section 1101.3 is a California law that requires you to replace your plumbing fixtures with water-saving models if you haven’t already. This law was passed in 2009 to help conserve water amid California’s ongoing droughts and water shortages.

Standards of how much use is permitted are revised down frequently. https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2021/08/17/pasadena-approves-watering-restrictions-amid-drought/

https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/california-drought-could-lead-to-mandatory-water-restrictions-reinstated-statewide/2696713/

Also remember that this doesn't just involve California, so what have those other states done?
Trump, "I want water waste in my shower!"
Essentially all the states east of the Rocky Mountains are wet states. Essentially all the states west of Rocky Mountains are dry states. Wet states don't care and want waste.

The combination of farmers continuing to irrigate high water need crops and gas fracking doesn't help either. The 1st just wastes water while the 2nd adds contamination to the list.

Since Canada might have something to say about the Great Lakes, they won't go dry by being drained.

When I Lived in dA Middle East in '69 - '70 on Bahrain Island in Persian Gulf,
We had one 'Sweetwater' Tap in Kitchen fO Our Only Fresh Water and fO
taking Showers and Other Water Needs it was Salt Water from da Gulf.
Can't remember if it was Full Salt or Reduced Salt - definately Salt Water.
Took a GOoD Shower. Seemed Fine. Sort of had a Tineee 'Residue. Fine and Dandy tho.

Can You IMAGINE dA Water SAVINGs in U S of A and Other Places ifN Salt Water is Used fO Baths and Other Needs?

Lake Mead and dA Other Biggees would Not Be at Lowest Levels in History.

Hmmmm.

Either PIPE in dA Water from Very Wet Places or Use Salt Water fO Major Non-Ingesting Needs. Yeah?

Got to be cheaper to move people than build a pipe the size of the Mississippi. So we move all the socialist California people into the wet red states and flip them blue. Wonderful, a two for one problem solved.

The largest TBM is below 18 m (60ft) in diameter. The Mississippi is how big, at the point you want to tap into it?

Plus you cannot just think I'll start boring here and head for _______ on the west of the Rockies, you have to know the geology and find a route that the machine can bore through with minimal risk of stopping. If a TBM gets stuck for too long then you have just put millions into a blocked tube with no chance of getting your money or the machine back.

Just go study the tunnels built using TBM's and find out why the change direction so many times.

Let's see. Planetary Scientists and Others who desire to Find and One day Travel to Other Planets and Moons seem to care an awful lot about Water.

They don't seem to be Ready to Strap on dA Space Suit and Rocket Towards a Destination with 'Air'. However, they are Ready to Risk Their Lives for a Journey to a Water World, Not an Air World.

Europa have Breathable 'Air'?. It certainly seems to have Water and Water Is dA Reason to Travel There. Mars? Nope. No Air.
Ice and Water? Seems to. Another Reason to Risk Money; Life; and Limb to Go There.

An Air Making Machine brought to a Planet/Moon and Let's say this Machine can Make Breathing 'Air' out of the Non-Breathable Atmosphere of Planet/Moon, would be a Trip more Likely to occur if Planet/Moon had Water.

I really don't Know SQUAT 'bout wat I'm Talkin', but I would bet dA Farm dat a Water World without(WO) Breathable Air is a
destination HIGH on da List and a Breathable Air World without(WO) Water is a destination LOW on da List.

I Don't Understand and will Never Understand WHY Excess Water - Especially as in Tennessee- is Not Controlled and Diverted for LIFEs Sake.

Water a Life Giver and Taker.

I have to agree with you. Oil & gas get pumped thousands of miles, but trying to get water moved even a few hundred is a step too far for so many.
Years ago in the UK cities like Birmingham and Manchester had pipe systems built from North Wales (where they get an excess of rain) to supply their growing needs, but in recent years such systems have been blocked by NIMBYs at every level.

Easier to Divert Destructive Water AWAY from Their LIving Spaces and Crops. Earlier Peoples Living in Valleys had Massive Die Offs when
Water came Rushing Down and Destroyed Them.

The scale difference between oil and water is something many can't grasp. Oil pipelines deliver barrels. Water pipelines deliver acre feet.
The aforementioned California Aqueduct delivers an acre foot about every 3.5 seconds.

Years ago in the UK cities like Birmingham and Manchester had pipe systems built from North Wales (where they get an excess of rain) to supply their growing needs, but in recent years such systems have been blocked by NIMBYs at every level.
Just like here the NIMBY's won't allow the peripheral canal.
