This story is both old and new....
Protests by Dutch farmers have been rumbling on for three or four years. The farmers gripe is about them facing a significant reduction in the use of nitrogen fertilisers they can use and in the number of livestock they are allowed to keep. Traditionally there have used vast amounts of animal manure and artificial fertilisers to provide the nitrogen required to grow the crops needed to feed their vast livestock herds as well as to produce crops for direct human consumption. The trouble is a lot of that nitrogen ends up in the waterways, where it encourages massive grow in the aquatic plants that live in those waterways, and a proportion of those plants detach from where they are growing quite happily. These detached plants then clog up the various pumps and drains that keep the approximately 50% of the country that is at or below sea level habitable/farmable.
Much of the nation's export is in the form of farm produce, predominately dairy & dairy related. So if one cuts one's livestock size you reduce the amount of feedstuffs needed, but you also reduce your income, you make it easier to maintain the water levels and thus the land area available for forming, but you need less of that......
Not an easy problem to solve, and certainly not in the time that the government set out back in about 2018......

I can recall pre-Premier League days. Would often go watch 2/3 pre-season friendlies. Most of the time doing that, I had to leave London for just one of those games.
At that time, there were 11 London clubs in the old First Division.
Practically all the 1st Div teams played at least 1 pre-season friendly with a team from a lower div, thereby helping those clubs financially, unlike now.
How times change...

In the UK official records go back to 1884, but individuals were recording data for at least another couple of hundred years.

Here in the UK the official declaration of a weather record contains a statement along the line "since records began", and possibly give the date of the first official recording of that type of data.
