A Canadian woman is thanking her lucky stars after narrowly avoiding a meteorite that slammed into her pillow while she slept, according to a report.

Ruth Hamilton was snoozing in her home in Golden, a town in southeastern British Columbia, on October 4 when she heard a crash and felt debris on her face, Victoria News reported.

“I just jumped up and turned on the light, I couldn’t figure out what the heck had happened,” Ms Hamilton told the news outlet.

A police officer who responded to her emergency call wondered if the jagged object that landed on her pillow might have come from a nearby construction project.

“We called the Canyon project to see if they were doing any blasting and they weren’t,” she said, referring to local road building works. “But they did say they had seen a bright light in the sky that had exploded and caused some booms.

• The phases of the three phase supply cables were wired randomly into the circuit breakers!!! I had to hijack the electrician for the afternoon to correctly reconnect the distribution boxes!!!
  
• No earth cable! Added as an afterthought...
  
• Later, we found the earth cables to be too small a gauge and so they had to be re-cabled correctly...
  
• No surge protectors... Added as an afterthought...
  
• And (not finally), some cabling that was offered for use had a rather curious spec rather than the normal spec expected... Turns out, that was an attempt to offload cheap old cable that had been languishing for years and was outdated by the newer specs. Caught that trick!... Didn't catch them going 'around the houses' to charge for unnecessarily long cabling...

A rare example of one of the USA's first coins has been found hidden in a collection kept inside a sweet tin.

The mid-17th Century New England shilling was found by Wentworth Beaumont at his family's home of Bywell Hall in Northumberland.

The coin was struck in 1652 for use as currency by early settlers in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

It is hoped the coin could sell for £200,000 when it goes for auction in London next month.

Seismic activity of underwater volcano Fukutoku-Okanoba created a small island and revealed sunken warships from World War II about 808 miles from Tokyo, according to Vice Magazine...

The artifacts were discovered with the help of GPS georeferencing, satellite topographic images and LIDAR sensors in the periphery of just one of the sections of the project, which runs from the cities of Palenque, in Chiapas to Escárcega, in Campeche.

Discoveries ranged from mounds to bases with complex architecture, INAH archaeologists Ileana Echauri Pérez and Iliana Ancona Aragón said. The pair also worked with INAH investigator Silvianne Boucher Le Landais.
