Because most people in the North look at stars facing south, and most people in the South look at stars facing north.

Actually here down under you see more stars looking south than looking north. ;-)

Sorry no little dipper for you and the lynx is not missing. Of course to find something that's little one might need something big.

'Down south down under' they are assembling the world's greatest telescope array so far.

... There are already various arrays in operation to make up, eventually, the Square Kilometer Array.

Fantastic stuff when that comes online!

Yes there is!!!

There is Fourecks, with lager and kangaroos.

There is also the down-under shouldered by Great A'Tuin.

And then also there are the Dungeon Dimensions...

All in the fabulous other-world of what might be...

Scary stuff!

Hey!...

Your NSF has the chance to come good with Arecibo #2:

One of the proposed new designs for that utilizes a phased array of elements on a flat tilting platform to outperform even the Chinese FAST!

(Write to your political rep to push that along?)

Yep, the Square Kilometer Array will not just be able to see the centre of our galaxy, but many other galaxies way out there.

It's now LLB time here. :-D

Cheers.

So far today we've had rain, fog, snow, rain, mist, cloudy and finally it's all bright and sunny. All in about 6 hours of "daylight" time.
I can't wait to see what the remaining few hours will bring.

And here at this latitude we're just now descending into an early evening blue-grey gloom as the blazing burst of afternoon bright blue sky sun becomes obscured by a high overcast and the curvature of the earth...

(Don't mention that last bit to the flat earthers!...)
