Just reinforces this:
So far, haven't seen any scientific evidence that the vaccines can prevent serious mutated Covid infections.
That's 1 down...

There is very good evidence that the Pfizer/Moderna style vaccines work very well against all the present variants. Also, the way those vaccines focus upon only one part of the coronavirus 'spike' protein means that a broad swathe of mutations will be covered.

The Astra-Zenica style vaccines look to have a more mixed effect but still with good effect and good enough to keep the great majority of people out of hospital.

The efficacy of the Sputnik and Sinovac vaccines have been noted to be less, but they are still effective enough to keep most people out of hospital. However, is that still the case if the second booster jab is given too early?...

Note that our studies for here in the UK have backed up what was initially a very controversial move to delay the second booster dose. Our trials now show that the extra period before giving the booster jab actually gives a much better stronger boost.

Here's hoping that we have enough people vaccinated to thwart the latest UK wave of COVID and combined abandoned restrictions!

Stay safe folks!

The world's total case has now exceeded 188.6 million while deaths has passed 4,065,800. :-(

Changes at the top end of the death list have been Tunisia passing Egypt, but they still remain in 35th place as Bangladesh leapt over both to claim 34th and they're extremely like to move up 2-3 more spots by my next update, while at the lower end Madagascar bumped Australia down to 114th so now let's get on with the case list changes.

Well as usual most of the activity is happening down at the lower and mid of the list with Laos jumping past both Sint Maarten and New Zealand to claim 182nd spot, the Channel Islands leapt over Saint Lucia, Niger and Burundi to land in 170th while Fiji took flight again becoming the 158th member of the 11K+ club and after passing over 5 countries they landed at the bar of the 12K+ club becoming the 154th member, Martinique sailed on past Curaçao and Congo to become the 151st member of the 13K+ club only to continue on past the Bahamas into 150th spot while showing no signs of slowing down.

Eswatini was the 135th country to enter the 20K+ club, cheeky little Malta took except to Australia passing them so repassed them back as Réunion passed Cabo Verde, but both remain in place because Vietnam took flight over French Guiana and all of them to briefly touchdown in 123rd, Rwanda bumped the Ivory Coast out of 114th as Cambodia became the 112th member of the 60K+ club and are now polishing Singapore's tow ball, Zimbabwe was the 110th country to join the 70K+ club before sweeping Luxembourg from 109th and Mozambique became the 102nd country to enter the 90K+ clubhouse with a lonely China now in its sights.

Mongolia displaced Latvia from 90th spot, South Korea replaced Nigeria in 85th while Myanmar became the 82nd member of the 200K+ club, Libya removed Bosnia/Herzegovina from 80th as Sri Lanka slipped past Ethiopia into 71st, Oman passed Egypt and Venezuela to claim 66th, but I think that there could be a tussle in the offering between Oman and Venezuela, after Denmark became the 65th member of the 300K+ club.

Thailand (who only passed Australia a few months ago) has now claimed 60th place after passing the Dominican Republic and Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kuwait both shoved Uruguay out of the way to take over 56th & 57th respectively as Kazakhstan booted Bolivia from 47th, Tunisia was the 45th to join the 500K+ club and then swept Saudi Arabia out of their way into 44th while Austria was knocked out of 40th by the U.A.E., Malaysia rolled right on past Israel into 32nd and Indonesia absolutely blasted Mexico from 15th.

Which is rounded out by Spain becoming the 11th country to enter the 4M+ clubhouse as Russia flung France out of its way to reclaim 4th place.

Meanwhile here down under the limo driver's outbreak now numbers 864 cases along with 2 deaths and Gladys extends her softdown for the state for another 2 weeks (when will she learn that a short sharp proper lockdown weeks ago would've had this over by now). :-(

Anyhow that's it until next time.

My worse concerns have become fact.
Whether or not it is an isolated incident is now the question.
Overheard a conversation in the office so asked my supervisor, it is true.
A work colleague caught Covid from her boyfriend so is now self isolating & has being doing so for close to 2 weeks now.
Hmm, they kept that quiet..
The issue is - She has had both jabs.
So...

I have heard no one of repute stating that someone fully vaccinated say one will not catch the coronavirus after. The question is, how bad will the disease get for her?

No surprises here for the UK unmasking:

Nissan sees 10% of workforce told to self-isolate

Production at Nissan's Sunderland car plant has been hit by hundreds of staff being alerted and forced to isolate by the NHS Test and Trace app.

It is understood that up to 900 workers have been sent home from the plant, more than 10% of the total workforce.

Case numbers in the local area have been rising sharply, meaning that it has been difficult to avoid disruption...

... The problem is especially acute in restaurants and pubs, with UK Hospitality boss Kate Nicholls saying that in some cases, up to one-third of staff have been forced to stay at home....

Organisers of the Tokyo Olympics say one athlete and five workers have tested positive for coronavirus - just eight days before the opening ceremony.
They did not disclose any details.
On Wednesday, a staff member of the Russian women's rugby team was admitted to hospital after testing positive in Munakata, in western Japan.
Also on Wednesday, a coronavirus cluster was identified at a hotel hosting a number of Brazilian athletes in Hamamatsu, central Japan.
Tokyo reported 1,308 new infections on Thursday - the highest number since January.

Some 530,126 alerts telling people to self-isolate were sent in the week to 7 July, a 46% rise on the previous week...

... Cases have increased 32.6% over the last week. Prime Minister Boris Johnson had previously warned there could be 50,000 cases a day by 19 July - when most legal restrictions are due to end in England.

Latest government figures also show a further 63 Covid deaths...

Some per capita numbers about blood clot deaths due to vaccines and covid deaths, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-57848367
There is a known likely side-effect to the AstraZeneca vaccine that is very rare, known as vaccine-induced thrombosis and thrombocytopenia (VITT). That's a condition where clots form in combination with low platelet levels, and that is something that doesn't happen naturally. Therefore, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) thinks there is a strong likelihood that it is the vaccine causing this.
There have been almost 400 cases - most after the first dose - with 71 deaths, so it's about one death per 650,000 doses.

There is some suggestion there's a slightly higher risk in women than men but it's not absolutely clear, and slightly higher incidence in young people. That is why initially the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) said initially people under 30 should not have the AstraZeneca vaccine, which they changed to under 40 in May.
All medicines including vaccines have risks as well as benefits. For individuals and society, you have to set that against the risks you are trying to prevent, which is Covid.

With Covid there have been something like 1,900 deaths per one million people in the UK and Covid itself is known to be a serious cause of clots.

Something like one in five people hospitalised with Covid will end up with clots.

To equalise the UK numbers, that's about;

AstraZeneca vaccine - 3 deaths in 2 million
Unvaccinated - 3,800 deaths in 2 million.

Stay cautious and safe, whatever your age:

Covid: Younger adults still at risk of serious organ damage
wrote:
Younger adults admitted to hospital with Covid are almost as likely to suffer from complications as those over 50 years old, a study has found.

Four in 10 of those between 19 and 49 developed problems with their kidneys, lungs or other organs while treated.

The research looked at 73,197 adults of all ages across 302 UK hospitals in the first wave of Covid in 2020.

"The message is that this is not just a disease of the elderly and frail,"...

... the risk was high even in young, previously healthy individuals...

... "We do know from other infectious diseases that these sorts of problems with your kidneys or heart can develop into longer-term complications," ... "I think it's reasonable to expect that this may be the same with Covid-19."

Haven't trusted SAGE since they appointed Cummings & his B/S. About the only good thing in that report is:
Despite estimates suggesting half of people given the jab would still be vulnerable to getting infected, all of the jabs offer high levels of protections against hospitalisation and death.
