Another very British problem, especially in our public broadcast media, is the concept of 'balance' - interpreted as giving equal airtime to proponents and adversaries of any given proposition.

Having written about The Great Barrington Declaration in an adjacent thread, I turned on BBC News, to find Sunetra Gupta, of Oxford University (one of the co-authors of the declaration) being given equal 'expert' billing with the chief scientist of the World Health Organisation in, I think, a global Q&A broadcast. Majority vs minority views both deserve to be heard, but one voice from each side giving 'expert' answers isn't balance for me.

That will be debated for years but I don't think it will ever be disputed. However, there is much more than social media to be worried about.
Take this guy, a former investment analyst for Goldman Sachs & marries the daughter of a billionaire, no worries for him about his income then.

Not for me either, just look at the mess "climate warming" has got into with the media's idea of balanced experts. They very rarely mentioned that for every 'expert'* on the 'it's natural not man made' side there are ten or more on the 'global warming is real' side.

We live in the Holocene Epoch, of the Quaternary Period, in the Cenozoic Era of the Phanerozoic Eon.

The last ice age finished 12,000 years ago, the next ice age will begin in about 80,000 years. We are in what scientists call an interglacial period. i.e. the Earth naturally heats up and cools down. in cycles.

Yes THERE IS global warming going on, but mankind can't stop it. All we are doing is to bring the peak on quicker by our activities.

I meant those that attend marches and demonstrations in the UK. Usually with a copy of the Guardian in their back pocket, green wellies, and a bottle of herbal tea, and vote for Farage.

NASA scientists are of course a different matter as we all know.

And don't forget Sun spot cycles, usually 11 years cycle, but some scientists say there are much longer cycles as well.

But as we all know scientists are scientists are scientists, they are only as famous as their last co-authored paper. I take everything they say with a pinch of salt (and snuff). The earth will warm up, full stop. finsh, end of. Mankind can slightly delay it or hasten it, it will happen regardless. So what is the point of all this gnashing of teeth?

Don't mention the industrial revolution and pollution.

Also don't mention that wind + solar + batteries are cheaper and vastly less polluting than the old fossil fuels and the fossil fuels companies hanging on to their old polluting profits.

If you can't believe the batteries bit: Just look up the game-changer of Elon Musk's big battery in Australia killing off dead the criminally stupidly profitable games of the fossil power stations there 'gaming' peak demand.

There are also multiple examples of batteries in use daily around the UK that avoid the need for expensive new power lines to be erected.

Climate change activists just want something to demonstrate about. They would demonstrate about having nothing to demonstrate about!!

And the corporate greedy old fossils just wish to burn us all to an early grave so that they can enjoy their greed now. No cares for any future!

Add/ammend - Why were they using any foreign company when for many years we had a body of scientists and engineers who were at the very forefront of nuclear power generation technology?

Well, we've reached stage 1 and liftoff. 15% of Conservative MPs have officially notified the party they they have lost confidence in Boris Johnson as their leader.

There will be a vote tonight (Monday 6 June), between 17:00 and 19:00 UTC, and the result will be announced minutes after the poll closes. But it requires a 50% +1 outcome to remove him from office.

Two previous Conservative Prime Ministers have been down this route in recent years: Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May. Both won their 50% + 1 majority, so were not forced from office: but both resigned shortly afterwards.

Boris is sounding a lot like our ex-PM (just before he became an "ex") now.
