The story continues on from:

For just two examples of what it is to deny the reality of our polluted WORLD climate:

YouTube: Climate Clash: Malcolm Roberts (Australian Senator) vs Brian Cox (World renowned Scientist)

Climate excerpt of the exchange between Malcolm Roberts (One Nation) and Physicist Brian Cox, Australian ABC Q&A programme...

YouTube: The disarming case to act right now on climate change - Greta Thunberg

... "wake up and change."

Note: This is all completely real, in our real world.

Completely compelling stuff.

How can we deny immediate positive action must be taken, immediately?

Sir David Attenborough: Climate Change - The Facts

After one of the hottest years on record, Sir David Attenborough looks at the science of climate change and potential solutions to this global threat. Interviews with some of the world’s leading climate scientists explore recent extreme weather conditions such as unprecedented storms and catastrophic wildfires. They also reveal what dangerous levels of climate change could mean for both human populations and the natural world in the future.

The US refuses any mention of climate change in the Arctic Council !
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-finland-arctic-council-idUSKCN1SD143
The United States has refused to sign an agreement on challenges in the Arctic due to discrepancies over climate change wording, diplomats said on Tuesday, jeopardising cooperation in the polar region at the sharp edge of global warming.
With Arctic temperatures rising at twice the rate of the rest of the globe, the melting ice is creating potential new shipping lanes and has opened much of the world’s last untapped reserves of oil and gas to commercial exploitation .
A meeting of eight nations bordering the Arctic in Rovaniemi in Finland on Tuesday was supposed to frame a two-year agenda to balance the challenge of global warming with sustainable development of mineral wealth.
But sources with knowledge of the discussions said the United States balked at signing a final declaration as it disagreed with wording that climate change was a serious threat to the Arctic.
It was the first time a declaration had been cancelled since the Arctic Council was formed in 1996.
Pompeo has apparently made his own climate change statement: "Melting sea ice presents new opportunities for trade"

Unbelievable!

So... To quote: "America is the world's leader in caring for the environment," he said

So... Really?! Trash the entire planet and the lives and livelihoods of all humans and destroy untold other species for the sake of get-rich-quick-now stupidity?

The old world still of Stupid beyond belief!

So... What do we do to combat such stupidity before Trump and Pompeo trash us all?

That site really is an extinction of anyone and anything with any brain!

Phew!! Amazing stuff - for all the wrong reasons.

All the more amazing:

Wikipedia: Breitbart News

... Its journalists are widely considered to be ideologically driven, and some of its content has been called misogynistic, xenophobic, and racist by liberals and many traditional conservatives alike. The site has published a number of lies, conspiracy theories, and intentionally misleading stories.

Breitbart News aligned with the alt-right ... declared the website "the platform for the alt-right" in 2016. In 2016, Breitbart News became a virtual rallying spot for supporters of Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign...

And worse!...

And worse!...

So, no surprise for the Trumped DENIAL blinkered befuddlement:

US is hotbed of climate change denial, major global survey finds

... A total of 13% of Americans polled in a 23-country survey conducted by the YouGov-Cambridge Globalism Project agreed with the statement that the climate is changing “but human activity is not responsible at all”. A further 5% said the climate was not changing.

Only Saudi Arabia (16%) and Indonesia (18%) had a higher proportion of people doubtful of manmade climate change...

... But despite these views, the great majority of US citizens do accept the science of climate change, with nearly four in 10 saying human activity was at least partly responsible, potentially with other factors, and a further third taking the stronger view that human activity is the dominant cause.

Scientists overwhelmingly agree that people are causing climate change through the exponential increase of greenhouse gas emissions over the years. Global emissions are still rising, and the last four years have been the hottest since records began...

Contrasting with:

Australians overwhelmingly agree climate emergency is nation's No 1 threat

... a majority of Australians saying global warming is a critical threat.

The poll undertaken for Lowy says 64% of adults rank climate change number one on a list of 12 threats to Australia’s national interests, up six points from last year’s survey and a jump of 18 points since 2014.

The 2019 result is the first time climate has topped the list of threats...

You mean the orange species?

Even Americans highly concerned about climate change dramatically underestimate the scientific consensus
https://climatecommunication.yale.edu/publications/even-americans-highly-concerned-about-climate-change-dramatically-underestimate-the-scientific-consensus/
In September, on a stage with a panel of fellow climate experts, NASA atmospheric scientist Kate Marvel said “We are more sure that greenhouse gas is causing climate change than we are that smoking causes cancer.”

Unfortunately, we have the deadpan scientific/academic descriptions further neutered by political compromise to give:

Study shows IPCC is underselling climate change

... the language used by the global climate change watchdog, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is overly conservative – and therefore the threats are much greater than the Panel's reports suggest. ...

... "We found that the main message from the reports - that our society is in climate emergency - is lost by overstatement of uncertainty and gets confused among the gigabytes of information," ...

"The IPCC supports the overwhelming scientific consensus about human impact on climate change, so we would expect the reports' vocabulary to be dominated by greater certainty on the state of climate science - but this is not the case."...

And for a brief reminder of what silly stakes are being gambled with for our continued way of life, and for the way of life for the whole planet:

Planet has only until 2030 to stem catastrophic climate change...

Governments around the world must take "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society" to avoid disastrous levels of global warming, says a stark new report from the global scientific authority on climate change...

... the planet will reach the crucial threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels by as early as 2030, precipitating the risk of extreme drought, wildfires, floods and food shortages for hundreds of millions of people. The date, which falls well within the lifetime of many people alive today, is based on current levels of greenhouse gas emissions.

The planet is already two-thirds of the way there...

Deny that?...

Martin

Meanwhile, the financial denial continues...

Banking on Climate Change 2019: Fossil Fuel Finance...

March 2019

... Last October, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a sobering report on the devastating impacts our world will face with 1.5° Celsius of warming – let alone 2°C – while setting out the emissions trajectory the nations of the world need to take if we are to have any shot at keeping to that 1.5°C limit. This 10th annual fossil fuel finance report ... reveals the paths banks have taken in the past three years since the Paris Agreement was adopted, and finds that overall bank financing continues to be aligned with climate disaster.

Adding up lending and underwriting from 33 global banks to the fossil fuel industry as a whole reveals stark findings: Canadian, Chinese, European, Japanese, and U.S. banks have financed fossil fuels with $1.9 trillion since the Paris Agreement was adopted (2016 to 2018), with financing on the rise each year. Fossil fuel financing is dominated by the big U.S. banks, with JPMorgan Chase as the world’s top funder of fossil fuels by a wide margin.

Also examined are the banks’ support for 100 top companies that are expanding fossil fuels, given that there is no room for new fossil fuels in the world’s carbon budget. Banks continued to support these companies with $600 billion in the last three years...

All a blindly mad game of fiduciary suicide?...

And all the rest of us get wiped out with the madmen?!

All on our only one planet,
Martin

How to overcome the denial afflicting us all and the entire planet?

The Guardian view on extinction: time to rebel

... There are already signs of a shift in thinking. A new OECD report makes a bold call for taxes on wildlife-degrading companies, and the diversion of finance to biodiversity-boosting projects rather than damaging ones; fossil fuel companies and agribusiness continue to receive vast subsidies. Many believe a more radical rethinking of our economic model is needed.

Real change will require a depth of imagination, ambition and sheer determination which humans have historically struggled to muster. Yet if we cannot summon the required concern for a million species, we could at least focus on one: our own. We may not be charmed by Earth’s 5.5 million insect species, but we need them to pollinate crops, disperse seeds and break down waste to enrich the soil. Through ignorance, greed, laziness and simple lack of attention we are wiping out the very creatures upon whom we ourselves depend.

So... How to break out of the "fossil fuel companies and agribusiness" 'hegemony' that is destroying us all?

All on our only one planet,
Martin

Further real world denial of destructive problems:

The elite soldiers protecting the Amazon rainforest

French Guiana, a small French overseas territory on the north-eastern coast of South America, is one of the most forested nations on the planet, but its precious ecosystem is under threat from illegal gold mining...

"... here in French Guiana we have a unique treasure, the jungle. Our mission is to protect it."...

... the price of gold has continued to soar and rampant illegal gold mining has destroyed swathes of jungle from Ecuador across Peru, Colombia and Venezuela to Brazil.

In French Guiana, which has a population of less than 300,000 people, there are an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 illegal miners...

... Operating across an area the size of Ireland, this regiment of 400 men simply cannot be everywhere at once. But for conservation expert Dominick Plouvier, both the garimpeiros and the army acting on behalf of the French government are chasing short-term solutions. "As soon as the army leaves, the garimpeiros return," he explains. "Gold mining is such an important livelihood in this area, you can't just say 'don't do it'." "Many local people as well as Brazilians depend on this economy.

If you want to stop the destruction of the forest, you need to offer legal and sustainable alternatives".

So let's see...

Somewhere in the 'back of beyond'.

No adequate infrastructure for the expected number of fans.

Indeed, the stadium is nowhere near big enough for a modest expected number of fans.

No realistic means of travel for the expected number of fans...

So... Why Baku in the back of beyond?

All good for a purely local event. But for something more expansive?

So... Why not somewhere more practical and less costly to people and the planet?...

And for what consequences??

Therein lay many answers...

In other words, a logistical nightmare which is a "real world" climate issue. As for selecting the "back of beyond", what more do you expect from old farts who control the purse strings - their way or the highway.
