I'm coming round to the point of view that the Capitol authorities have played a blinder. Totally by accident, and completely unplanned, but they've turned two powerful searchlights on American society.

First, by allowing the keyboard warriors of social media to act out their fantasies on a very real, very public, stage, they've forced the big tech companies to clean up the cess-pit of their own making. It's just a start, but even that was unthinkable a week ago.

And the second searchlight has illuminated the racism of American police forces in a way that will strengthen the call of Black Lives Matter for action in the coming sessions of Congress.

Two more searchlights have been powered up, but have yet to find their targets. One will need to shine on the attitudes and thought processes of the American military, as revealed by the behaviour of their (young) veterans over the last few days.

And the second needs to focus on the sense of entitlement of the American male. I haven't heard it yet, but I'm sure 'Me Too' will have something to say about that.

America loves Alphabet soup.

It's more than likely there was a time that they had great taste, unfortunately, they now have too much bureaucratic toxicity.
