However, what is very evident from afar is that it is the right-wing of American politics that is hiding its head from truth. We see crowds invading the very seat of American democracy, we see calls to take up arms to the 74 million who voted for Trump, while ignoring the over 200 million who did not vote for him. It is the American right who are afraid to admit to defeat in the polls and who now wish to gain "victory" by any means including violence and threats of violence. I don't think either Trump or Biden had a good success rate in answering direct questions about their policy. BUT Trump was reported over here as being somewhat worse than Biden at going on the attack as soon as anyone asked a question about real policy as opposed to "nice woolly word" ones. Trump was full of bold statements like "I want to make America Great Again", but never actually laid out any concrete path to achieve this, indeed some of his actions in later days were contrary to that ambition. We did see Biden quite clearly make statements about re-joining the Paris Accord on Climate Change, improving health care and re-uniting families torn apart by Trumps actions. However, what came from Trump in terms of real policy? Lots of rants about how "the liberals will.....", but nothing positive, just a load of abuse and dismissal, no counter policy, no concrete, just hot air and more hot air, and more hot air. Then the total farce of refusing to accept that Biden had beaten him, the race to the lawyers, the humiliating defeats in court after court (I think the final tally was something like 90 cases lost, with one very minor point won - if Trump & Biden had been teams in a ball game the crowd would have jeering "looser" at Trump long before the first time-out, never mind after the final whistle - and yet on with his legal challenges, and wasted more money (not his own, but government money in funding the courts, various schemes that are being seen as scams....). And what does the world think of all this? Many countries are, and I can but use a fine Scotts phrase here, "Fere scunnered" at the behaviour of a leader of a major democracy should lower himself to such depths, depths that he has criticised others for plumbing in recent years, and they do not see the USA under Trump as being a "beacon of virtue", rather the home of a corrupt and broken leader.
