I've been crunching work since nearly the beginning, its been so long it will be weird not seeing those tasks anymore. I hope the team find a need for the project so we can stay active, I will not disconnect after March 31st in that hope! Congrats to the Seti@Home team for an amazingand pioneering project, I hope the next phase yields great results so we can all experience the pride of discovery from our participation! |

And just as I thought we were going to get data from Parkes and maybe FAST to crunch, to cover the Southern sky. Still, the Nebula analysis will hopefully reveal a handful of candidates for follow-up and we may be called on in the future to crunch again! In the meantime, I'm sure the conspiracy theorists will have a field day with the apparent *shutdown* of SETI@home :-( ![]() |

Alas, seti@home was the last project that supported my older Powerpc based Macs that still see occasional use... :( |

It is hard to put into into words the way I am feeling now but I will try. This project has been a part of my life for over twenty years. It was there just after I got married, had my kids until now when they are going off to start their own adult lives. Always there as an expression of the optimism I felt when I was my younger self. Thank you all for putting in the effort and let's hope that the fundamental purpose of this project comes to fruition one day. |

Noooooooooooo Literally just got started again for a couple months after a *cough* very long hiatus. Marriage, kids, death, moving, jobs, a lot of distractions, etc. Finally one of the emails caught my eye and I resolved to check it out. Good luck with the analysis and will be around when the search resumes! :) |

Wow, this was not the news I was expecting this morning at all. What happened to all of the breakthrough listen data that Seti was to receive and distriute - I thought that was going to keep the project alive a lot longer? Obviously all good things have to come to an end but this too me by surprise. I remember running seti classic then the change to boinc - this is truly a sad day for us crunchers....hopefully all of this work will show signs of possible signals that push the need for this project again! |

Well the announcement was about two years later, and ending more abruptly than I expected. Still arrived as a shock. SETI@Home basically made Distributed Computing mainstream. It feels strange thinking that SETI@Home won't be sending out data to humanity in a few more weeks after so many years. The First Project we will never really leave. I have enjoyed making my contribution to SETI@Home. Hope the SETI@Home team can work through the backend phases and produce a robust scientific paper. Wish the SETI@Home team and fellow SETI@Home Volunteers all the best. |

I was highly distracted yesterday after I read the announcement. I managed to get to work without my morning meds or the breakfast I had heated up in the Microwave. By 10am I was "shakey" and didn't know why. Went home to take my meds and discovered the breakfast I hadn't eaten..... After meds/eating/napping I was much better. I'm very sorry to hear this news. I've been doing this since 2000. I've learned a lot about how to process more units in less time, and much more. Thank you for your friendship, and support. Good Luck! Bill George |

Bummer. So no good contact candidates as well? Double Bummer. Reminds me of "Steel Beach". ET figured all the mammals in the seas were the intelligent beings and killed off what was on the land, being a smaller area. Maybe Varley postulated correctly. |

This is a total bummer! I've been number crunching for SETI@Home since 2001DEC10. Highlights include 2008AUG $650 electricity bill! Normally $185 in the summer months. ((sniffles)) Was fun being in first place on Team TechRepublic Pro. |

wow, what a shock. Personally, I can't believe this, I feel so betrayed, so disappointed in you anti-scientific, anti- democratic and self-serving people. This isn't science, this is the corruption of science. The privileged once again mismanaging public resources. To me this reeks of gross incompetence. No wonder the world is in the state it's in, with such top down, self-serving and ineffective management. A real slap in the face to all the people who had such high hopes. Shame on you SETI. :-( |

And just as I thought we were going to get data from Parkes and maybe FAST to crunch, to cover the Southern sky FAST is in Guizhou, China. In the Northern hemisphere. Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours ![]() ![]() |

Two of my Android devices were in Seti hibernation already anyway, as they were very much out of work, so I've just added Androids, Universe and Einstein to all three devices. Keep them nicely busy. Thanks for the past 20 years, Seti. To what an idea worked out on a napkin can't lead, at least no one expected it to last this long. Just take an example of my favorite radio station, Radio Caroline. What they haven't endured on less than a shoe string budget. But they're still going strong after 55 years. So I have high hopes Seti will return. |
