Thanks Mike. Now to just wake up Arkayn to get his website updated. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

A task is a task is a task . . . . . they are all the same for MB. All that changes is the application used to crunch them.I figured, thanks for confirming. Sounds like it is either thermally throttling dropping down in frequency to cool itself off or as Grant suggests, it is not getting enough cpu support to keep the card constantly fed with data and allow the card to boost to its normal operating clocks.I know the APU is properly cooled, at most it reaches 65 deg C. The latter seems more likely, but I'm confused why. I wasn't keeping an eye on this computer for a month and I jumped into Lunatics, so perhaps something had changed in my normal performance. I'm going to go back to the stock apps for awhile to verify that it was running as before (that is, 1 task running an AMD GPU full bore, 1 NV task full bore, + 2 CPU tasks) before jumping back in. As for the Lunatics post about APUs...very interesting, but it refers to older architecture. I'm guessing Zen tech is better, so I don't know how much this applies to my current situation. I did run an experiment awhile back, and found that running all cores provided more credit than to disable one of the four cores. My computer has changed since then with the addition of the 1660 Ti. Its probably worth revisiting, but I'm not sure when I'll have the time to collect the data. Seti@home classic: 1,456 results, 1.613 years CPU time |

I installed the app for my GPU. Now that Seti is going down I would like to use 8 of my now idle CPU cores. Is there a way to get CPU tasks even with the stock app? I set my location preferences to allow CPU tasks but boinc only requests GPU tasks. |

The installer lets you choose as many applications as you like - apps for CPUs, apps for AMD GPUs, apps for NVidia GPUs, apps for intel GPUs. Just check the 'master control' for AP or MB on each page, and select the flavor of app you believe will suit your hardware best. The other prerequisite is that you tell the project - via your preferences page - which classes of device you wish to use for SETI. You've done that, so you should be good to go. Once you've got the app, and set the preference, BOINC should request work. BOINC tends to supply GPU work first, and may stop requesting work when the GPUs reach their limit. Best to limit your requested cache size so you're never asking for more than 150 tasks per GPU. Note the the installer is a SETI-only utility. It doesn't interfere in any way with your settings for other projects, whether you wish to run stock apps from other projects or your own self-compiled apps. The only thing you can't do is to run Lunatics apps for SETI GPU, and also receive stock SETI apps for CPU. You would have to install Lunatics CPUs too - simply re-run the installer, and select both types of app in the same run. |

Ok. And looking at the original post in this thread I wouldn't have to run out my cache of tasks. I did this anyway the 1st time I installed. |

If you are part of the group of people who are planning on continuing to run the S@H project after you run out of tasks here is something to think about. 1) The Windows Lunatics installer uses a process that will keep you from downloading and running any tasks from S@H there are not already in the Lunatics installer setup. 2) If S@H were to pickup any "new" Astronomy projects that use different named apps you would not "automagically" start crunching them. 3) "The fix" is to revert to a "stock" S@H setup after you are done processing and returning your tasks after the hibernation starts. I don't know if simply renaming your "app_info.xml" file is sufficient or if you should run the "un-install" process. HTH, Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Rename will do. At some point, we are hoping that some new apps will be announced, and at that point, I would recommend that you rename that file, restart the BOINC program and 'reset' the SETI project. Until then, we are speculating - but have no hard knowledge - that the SETI servers will continue to run to accept late returns. If so, they should validate the good ones, and resend the bad ones and the very late ones to replacement crunchers. So you may like to leave your settings alone for the time being, so you can help with this cleanup operation. Or you may prefer to make a clean break and start a new hobby - It's entirely up to you. But please, before you leave or change anything, finish and report any last work that you may have picked up. |

Well, brand new apps can't fall from the sky. They should be 1) developed 2) tested. Lunatics team in touch with core developers so very good chances we will be involved on stage 1) And of course there is SETI beta project so all beta testers will be involved on stage 2) In short, only full auto-pilots will miss new apps. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |
