I have never been able to understand the complete ignorance of ideologues who believe in giving Centralized Power and Control of the Government and Economy to humans. All of which are imperfect and some will be evil.I think it's part of human civilization. We are the herd (as Trump called us Swedes recently) and we need a herder. In him/her(or the third gender) we trust. But if we don't have any herder... What happen then? |

Still people have the choice to listen to whatever media they like. Problem is that most of us don't listen to media we don't like. Like Trump for an example. When he doesn't like the news, what happens? "IT'S FAKE NEWS" |

Speaking of individual freedom. Seems like the Genius Trump compare himself to Captain Bligh. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1250075668282576898 Tell the Democrat Governors that “Mutiny On The Bounty†was one of my all time favorite movies. A good old fashioned mutiny every now and then is an exciting and invigorating thing to watch, especially when the mutineers need so much from the Captain. Too easy! Hmm... The true (both positive and negative) history of Bligh (who was promoted to Vice Admiral years later) and the mutiny, not the Hollywood silliness, is much different.I have both read the book and seen the movie. And Bligh went on to serve under Admiral Nelson at the Battle of Copenhagen on 2 April 1801 and later became Governor of New South Wales in 1805. |

Speaking of individual freedom again. How much freedom are citizens allowed? Let's say a pandemic break loose. Could one trust in individual freedom in such a crisis? |

Oh dear. You think it's the United States of America that founded the idea of individual freedom and having constitutions regulating that. Sorry. It wasn't. For example the Scandinavian countries were way before that having Things in the early Middle Ages. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thing_(assembly) In Sweden, are your Rights really just given to The People by humans controlling Government and not the "Laws of Nature and..."?I don't understant. Could you rephrase that question? |

Are your Rights given to you by your Government or Constitution. Or are your Rights given to you and all at birth and not by a Government or Constitution?Eh. The Rights are given by being a citizen of our country no matter of Governments and Constitutions of course. |

And what is the Constitutional Amendment/Change process in Sweden?.To Amend/Change Constitutional laws is not easy of course https://www.riksdagen.se/en/how-the-riksdag-works/democracy/the-constitution// The fundamental laws are more difficult to amend than other laws. There should be time for reflection and ensuring that the consequences have been thoroughly considered before changes are made. This is designed to protect our democracy. |

We, in the USA, do not believe that the fundamental Rights of Individuals and minority beliefs are subjected to the will of any majority. That's pathetic. Nothing is written in stone. The world are changing and constitutions as well. |

This discussion brings up several ideas' There are more than one way to have a constitutionally protected democracy I don't think America's protections have perfect record. A case in point the gerrymandering used to deprive people of their voice, the effective disenfranchisement of people of color, a legal system which favors the white in it's execution. I don't know if Sweden has issues like that but the image I receive does not contain that. Possibly in the past the Saami were treated poorly but my impression is that is not the way it is today. |

About constitutions, not something most are aware of, but one existed in America before the European invaders came. |

Isn't it sad that people believe that Federal laws written 200+ years ago applies to them. When it was up to each State who could vote, and that usually meant white property owners only, and that probably would not be the people who comment here, including me, if I was a US citizen. And I might add still don't apply to everybody in the US. |

I see Trump threatens to adjourn Congress so he can fill vacancies without Senate approval. There's a slight problem there, he hasn't nominated anyone for most empty positions. |

Isn't it sad that people believe that Federal laws written 200+ years ago applies to them. The saddest thing is that it hasn't truly happened yet. Gerrymandering, voter suppression.... |
