Just shows how Collatz is over rated in credits. I personally don't consider it much of a math project let alone a research project. +1 The conjecture itself is an interesting experiment, a good teaching aid, and has some interesting tie-ins to the natural world, but I've never understood the point of the research project, or why it is so popular. |

It is the project that awards the greatest amount of credits to satisfy the credit hogs. Gridcoin has a youtube channel as well with lots of instructional videos. Some are better than others. There are several GRC communities. Slack, Discord and Reddit all have channels. Ok, I installed Gridcoin Wallet (Ubuntu 18.04) and it synchronized and I received some GRC from a faucet (I think). However, my CPID says INVESTOR (so I won't receive any Gridcoin for the crunching). BOINC projects are installed in /var/lib/boinc-client. Will INVESTOR go away eventually and will my actual number show up in the CPID? Or do I have to do something? The googling I did mostly gave me answers that are very old and are for Windows which is the reason I am asking here. I also joined the Gridcoin team but I thought the whole purpose of this thread was so that anyone could join and get Gridcoin whether they are on any team or not on a team at all. |

At the moment I believe you have to be on a Whitelisted team (think only 2 teams besides Gridcoin team). But I think the goal is to eventually have it so you can be on any team or no team. Just not yet. Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours ![]() ![]() |

Ok, I installed Gridcoin Wallet (Ubuntu 18.04) and it synchronized and I received some GRC from a faucet (I think). No the current Gridcoin beta release is only whitelisting two teams so far. The Final Front Ear and the GPU Users Group. The point of Jims post was to solicit more team leaders to announce their interest in joining the beta test. They need to add more teams to the whitelist to prove the scalability of opening up the Gridcoin blockchain to ANY team. That will happen in the Fern release which will come after the Elizabeth release proves the viability of opening up Gridcoin to all teams. So talk to your current team leader and have them contact Jim Owens to indicate their interest in joining the beta testing. I also joined the Gridcoin team but I thought the whole purpose of this thread was so that anyone could join and get Gridcoin whether they are on any team or not on a team at all. You still show as a member of Overclock.net. Don't know if that is simply the account stats hasn't caught up yet. The whole point of this test was to remove the requirement of needing to join Gridcoin team to either stake SOLO or POOL. If you joined Gridcoin team, them you can stake either Solo or Pool. If you are a POOL investor, you earn rewards as a percentage of the total rewards earned by the Pool. If you want to earn rewards Solo, then you need around 5000 GRC to stake regularly. Either way you will be in INVESTOR mode until you publish your CPID beacon. You need at least 1 GRC to publish your beacon. So you need to accumulate some coins from the faucets to earn enough to publish or get a whale to stake you some starter coins. Instructions for GRCPOOL. https://gridcoin.us/Guides/pool.htm Instructions for SOLO. Steps 2,3 and 4. https://gridcoin.us/Guides/boinc-install.htm Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Are you going Solo or Pool? Have you synced up the blockchain yet? To speed things up you can download the current snapshot of the blockchain and get 80% of the way to the top. https://download.gridcoin.us/download/downloadstake/signed/snapshot.zip Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |
