The campus data center can continue to operate for approximately 3 days on emergency generator power.

We got a notice about this today as well. PG&E is doing rolling blackouts due to high winds to avoid starting any fires.

News update from Jeff Cobb re: outage

Large swaths of Northern California, including the UC Berkeley Campus, are under a Public Safety Power Shutoff due to high winds and the associated wildfire risks. Our servers are located in the campus Data Center which is protected by a high capacity UPS. We expect that our servers will remain up for the duration of the outage. Thus far Internet connectivity also remains up although this depends on factors outside of the Data Center.

Looks like the servers are going to take a hammering- about 80% of my cache is Arecibo work, and probably 90% of them are shorties.

Oh joy.
Lots of shorties about, with plenty enough noise bombs mixed in, and now the Scheduler requests are resulting in "Project down for maintenance" messages, or the old "Project has no tasks available" message.
And all of this with the second weekly outage (extended version) to look forward to in a few hours.

@ ALL

. . It wasn't bad for an unscheduled outage. It was over before I could complain about it ... :) but then again, I am not as fast as some ;)

. . Maybe they are trying to fix something to avert an unscheduled outage tomorrow :)

Some enjoy the Sunday outage, they use it as a reason to visit a pub.

Is 11oc19ab stuck in splitting the AP ?? it is at 9 channels done and 5 in progress. Just thought I'd document it in case it is a problem, or just in case posting about it fixes it.

5 more hours until we find out if the Sunday morning bug (or feature) is fixed.

Seems to be a problem on both the AP and MB sides of that one.

Greetings,

Well, looks like the "unscheduled" outage has struck again:
Sun 13 Oct 2019 05:15:08 AM CDT | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
Sun 13 Oct 2019 05:15:08 AM CDT | SETI@home | Scheduler request failed: Timeout was reached
Sun 13 Oct 2019 05:15:08 AM CDT | SETI@home | [sched_op] Deferring communication for 00:01:32
Sun 13 Oct 2019 05:15:08 AM CDT | SETI@home | [sched_op] Reason: Scheduler request failed
Sun 13 Oct 2019 05:15:10 AM CDT | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

I hope this one doesn't last as long as last weeks. :|

Have a great day! :)

This Sunday I am stocked to the rim, but it is very strange how this is happening regularly without any explanations (I would be contented with it, out of sheer curiosity) or remedy (if there is one).

. . Here it was up at 9:05pm AEDT (10:05am UTC) which makes it 2:05am Berkeley time, but down at 9:10 pm or 2:10am Berkeley. So while very repetitive this phenomenon is not punctual ...

. . As someone also remarked, I sure hope this time is a lot shorter outage than last week.

. . This is really making me want to spoof the BOINC client too ... I grow weary of constantly running out of work ...

5 weeks in a row now, a brain dead person after 3 weeks (If interested in project) would have corrected this..
