Snigger - I wish I'd had my camera with me the other day... I saw a Nissan Leaf being charged using a "Honda gennie" at the roadside. I can't help thinking how much the hire company charged to deliver said genni and how much fuel it used in bringing the Leaf's battery back to life.

BS, just make sure you have the Plugshare app on ones phone as I do, charging stations are popping up, in Barstow CA at Walmart there are 6 charging stations under construction from Electrify America(VW owned, currently they are laying conduit to connect to the huge transformer boxes and then Final inspection before going live), there are 2 in Yermo at Eddie World from ChargePoint(waiting for final inspection before going live). And lest I forget Tesla has a charging network that spans almost the entire country next to the fwys, EV's are now at 2.8% of the Vehicle Population and growing nationwide, Ford is testing an EF-150 pickup and will be making an EV with a 300 mile range based on the Mustang w/4 doors. Audi has an EV, so does GM and GM like Ford is testing an EV pickup, Ford is partnering with VW for EV R&D.

Cost:
Electrify America wrote:

$1 plus $0.99 cents/min at 125kW or more,
$0.69 cents/min between 125kW and 75kW,
$0.25 cents/min at 75kW or less.
Pass+ pricing:
$0.70 cents/min at 125kW or more,
$0.50 cents/min between 125kW and 75kW,
$0.18 cents/min at 75kW or less.
40 cents per minute additional if car not moved ten minutes after session ends.

EVgo charges $0.23 a minute, ChargePoint charges about $0.20 a minute.

Click on the pic for a larger image. Note N.Dakota may not have any chargers(yet), urban areas at this level of zoom have too many locations to be visible, so one would have to zoom in, locations with a Wrench are under construction.

@ Rob Smith: And I saw a Dodgy ICE vehicle by the roadside with its hood(bonnet) up waiting for assistance.
Nissan Leafs older than 2018 have a smaller 24KW(epa 80 miles) or 30KW(epa 107 miles) battery and even though the connectors and size is the same as the 40KW(epa 151 miles), Nissan won't allow older 2011-2017 Leafs to be upgraded, even though it is possible to do so. 2019 Leafs have 40KW and for the Leaf Plus 62KW(epa 226 miles)

An updated EV charging map from when I zoomed in and out of some areas @ https://www.plugshare.com/. There are lots of EV charging locations Nationwide and that includes N.Dakota, the NEC, and Florida too.

Tesla Model 3 EV's can get 75 miles of charge in 5 minutes at a V3 Supercharger and some Model 3's have 310 miles of range.

A Chevy Bolt(epa 238 miles) can charge up to about 75KW, a 2018+ Leaf up to 70KW(100KW peak), earlier Leafs up to about 50KW. $0.18 can be about $5.40 for a full charge.

Only problem is that nearly every charging station I have driven by has a car parked in front of it. It's rare in this area to find an open charging station. Not likely as much of a problem where you are.

There are 20 spots at Eddie World in Yermo CA, 2 are the Charge Points(awaiting final inspection) and 18 are Tesla Superchargers(All Active), they always have excess capacity, at least for the moment, at the Walmart Supercenter in Barstow CA has the 6 EA EV charging, plus there are other charging locations in the area, EV Charging is still growing. There is even a New Jack in the Box near the Walmart Supercenter that is under construction. In Yermo behind the Shell Station at Ghost Town Rd and the i15 fwy there is a solar array which might be there to help the Shell Station which might be getting into EV charging. The Barstow CA Days Inn has EV Charging as does the Barstow Mall, there is a KOA campground that has EV Charging in Yermo, it's still growing.

That's a common problem over here. "Zapmap" gives, allegedly, the locations of all >10,000 charge points in the UK (or at least those that have some "public face", but several on the map I know aren't there, an there are others that are there but not on the map. Not unsurprisingly the vast majority of these are in then major conurbations, but when you get out into the wilds it can be the best part of 60 miles between them, and finding the one you expected to be there is not working, blocked, or has the wrong sex connector must be a major frustration. Another thing that real-world users find is that the range is often way below expected due to the way they drive, or the road conditions they encounter - it has to be said that the same applies to "Dino-fueled" vehicles, and our fleet of VW Passats shows that quite clearly, some of us can achieve >55mpg, while others struggle to get much over 40 on the same set of journeys(even when running in convoy!).
It will be interesting to see what my little Honda does on a decent run - in a few days time I'm doing home -> Lowestoft -> Ardnamurchan -> home in three days, a total of about 1200 miles with longest leg being about 600 miles and the shortest just under 200 miles.

Me like most will or do have a charger at Home, here that would be a 48Amp or 11.52KW Level2 AC charger @ 240v which needs a 60Amp breaker and since I have no garage, My car port will have to suffice, a NEMA 14-60 outlet, above 60Amps up to 100Amps is all hardwired, I do have the 60Amp breaker, though I have been told I could safely go to a 70Amp breaker though there is no charger at 70, at 80Amps and 100Amps there are chargers and they are 19.2KW which is as far as Level 2 goes from what I've read, above that is Level3 which is about 450v and is DC Fast Charging and unless one is rich, isn't sold for home installation.

I am limited by My 100Amp main breaker in My Home and at the Stub that is connected to My home and cause of the old cabling from the Stub to the breaker at the demarcation point which also has a 100Amp breaker for SCE and the Park, that cabling may be able to do 125Amps, but is so far limited to 100Amp service to each space and would need to be certified by a licensed electrician before going to 125Amp service.

I'm looking the pricey Wattzilla Black Mamba 48Amp model($1099) which I could store in the trunk when not being used since it's just a 31 foot cable w/a 14-60 NEMA plug on one end and a lockable J1772 plug to attach to the car Or a Lockable ClipperCreek HCS-60, 240V, 48A, EV Charger($899 for the charger, the locking version is ordered directly from ClipperCreek, these are sturdy enough to be hit with a baseball bat multiple times and still work with no damage and are indoor or outdoor chargers), the outlet box will be weatherproof and yes lockable since I do not want My bill to go up beyond My usage, and SCE offers a discounted rate for those who charge their EV at home, though I'd have to see if it's lower than the Care and Medical rates I get now.
