Coronavirus: WHO head calls herd immunity approach 'immoral'

"Herd immunity is achieved by protecting people from a virus, not by exposing them to it," he said.

"Never in the history of public health has herd immunity been used as a strategy for responding to an outbreak, let alone a pandemic."
Now, who could he possibly be thinking of while he said that? ;-)

What's the good of herd immunity, if like flu, when it comes round next time, it has changed enough to be able to infect everybody again.

Coronavirus: 'Momentous' errors worsened Austria ski resort outbreak

Outbreaks at two popular ski resorts in March led to thousands of new cases and were worsened by "momentous miscalculations", the report said.

One resort, Ischgl, was linked to cases in 45 countries after skiers brought the virus home with them.
"From 8 March, a correct assessment should have led to the closing of bars, the stopping of ski lifts and orderly management of departures" of tourists, the report said.

But, instead, tourists were not informed and the resorts in the western Tyrol region remained open for several days.
I think we knew, but it's good to have the official report.

'It is a slaughter': Public health champion asks CDC director to expose White House, orchestrate his own firing
A former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and public health titan who led the eradication of smallpox asked the embattled, current CDC leader to expose the failed U.S. response to the coronavirus, calling on him to orchestrate his own firing to protest White House interference.

William Foege, a renowned epidemiologist who served under Democratic and Republican presidents, detailed in a private letter he sent last month to CDC Director Robert Redfield his alarm over how the agency has fallen in stature while the pandemic raged across America.

Yes it is, because firstly, the government in its wisdom has decided to put them in the high risk group. And secondly, those of us in that age group were taught to respect authority and were educated and brought up by parenting to a reasonable standard.
All generations had/has their fair share of wacko's, crooks & selfish. They were dealt with sufficiently unlike today.
Most people under 35-40 these days seem to have an attitude problem to almost anything. They are the grandchildren of the 1960's wild childs. Very interesting that you think it is the women that are the main culprits. I hope you have their permission to say that. Around my way it is mainly the men.
I trust you have their permission to say that?
I'm sfraid to have to tell you that in these uncertain times, that is one thing that seems very much in short supply.
Well, that is what happens when fools enter powerful positions.

As for wearing masks, you can't beat a good bandana, great neck warmer when not in use. :-)

It surprises me about the reluctance to take all precautions available in the US, as it can seriously damage your wealth.

The cost of health care over is absolutely ridiculous and it's no surprise that it's the #1 cause of personal bankruptcy there as well. :-(

The UK has invented a new twist. Establishments serving "substantial" meals can stay open, even in the most severely plague-ridden towns. Having just partaken of a solid wodge of stodge, I reckon my pub is safe. But I guess nouvelle cuisine is off the menu for the duration.

Then that just has to be a Cornish pasty in deepest darkest rainswept remote Cornwall?

Looking at the 'guidelines' and 'exceptions'... I suspect there are games of statistics being played out rather than safely staying consistent...

After another record breaking day (over 381,000 new cases) the world's total cases has passed 38,730,000 and deaths passed 1,096,300. :-(

The U.S. is fighting back to try and hold India off with almost 60,000 new cases being reported taking their numbers to over 8,149,900 cases and over 221,800 deaths.

Malaysia has moved up to 90th place while Croatia jumped both Cameroon and North Macedonia, but Slovakia jumped over all 3 to take up 85th spot, Bulgaria took 82nd from South Korea as Jordan knocked Australia out of 80th place, Myanmar has displaced El Salvador from 78th and Hungary passed Afghanistan to take over 72nd spot.

Libya took 67th place from Palestine as Austria and Armenia passed Singapore to take up 59th and 60th spot respectively, Ethiopia passed China for 49th place while Japan was passed by both Costa Rica and Portugal to take up 46th and 47th spots, Sweden became the 44th country to pass 100,000 cases and the U.A.E took 40th from Kazakhstan.

Nepal is now up to 38th place after jumping over both Qatar and Bolivia while Poland moved into 32nd, the Netherlands passed Canada without blinking to take up 26th place as Germany passed Saudi Arabia to retake 20th while Spain passed Colombia to take up 5th and Argentina followed them into 6th as they race to be the next country to pass 1 million infections.

Anyhow that's today's update done in the great COVID race.

Yep it means something, like not washing your hands properly before putting them near your face after touching an infected surface and that is very likely why it has not made it into mainstream media as the infection was self inflicted in most of those cases. :-(

And I'm sure that most normal people would realise that instead of those clutching at straws. ;-)

Ginormous TV = essential
Food on table = non-essential

Well that's the priorities in some peoples lives.

Management expects to be back to normal in 2024. Good luck with that one!
Who pays the piper?
The worst lay-off I've experienced was Perkins Engines.
Great job but hard graft even as a FLT driver. Including overtime clocking up close to £800 a week take home.
That is until they laid off close to 1,000 of us.
A month or so later, get a call on the landline - an agency in Nottingham.
Did I want my job back - Hung up (back on the road as a class 1/2 driver).
Within seconds the fool rang back & harangued me for hanging up on him.
BIG mistake - on his side.
Very enjoyable on my side. :-)
What was not very enjoyable was to see it splashed across the front page of our local paper 24 hours later.
1,000 jobs available (all agency).

I'm Alone and I'm Not Wearing a Mask...

All very good if at home alone and there will be no visitors (that is any other humans or any others' pets).

For are anywhere public, THEN GET A MASK ON and at least try to be more healthy for the rest of the world and for everyone else around.

Also: Make sure the mask covers well over your nose and completely over your mouth.

(Frequent hand washing is a very good idea. Strictly "keeping hands away from face" is similarly a Very Good Idea.)

Anything less is a potential deadly assault on everyone else around you.

Approaching others whilst knowingly ill is very definitely a deliberate assault...

Take care and be kindly to the rest of the world.

Gaining good Karma[*] is far more than just being good for the soul.
