Brexit was formally voted today in Brussels. In its final speech before the vote, Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage ended by waving goodbye with the UK flag.
"I know you will miss us, but now we say goodbye to you," said Nigel Farage before the Brexit leader and his party mates waved flags.

Before the vote, several of the parliamentarians took the opportunity to say a few words or to say thank-you and farewell greetings to the British people. Several of the speeches were emotional and in some cases it led to tears among the congregation.
After the vote, the entire Parliament joined the Scottish folk song Auld Lang Syne.
Hmm. Doesn't Scotland want to remain in the EU...

But even though the exit agreement has now been formally approved by the European Parliament, negotiations on new agreements still remain, especially in trade. Negotiations are expected to begin in late February.
The EU and the UK will also agree on what the relationship will look like in the future.
In the meantime, the UK continues to be part of the EU's internal market and the customs union, as well as paying towards the EU budget. Swedes without British citizenship who want to live in the UK must also apply for "settled status", a new permanent residence permit.

I liked Nigel Farage's mike drop. Break the rules, get silenced mid-sentence.

For such a short video, there were 2 serious issues IMV.
1: Unless I'm mistaken, she sounded Irish, so it seems that the British/Irish animosity is also at the top. That's bad news.
2: No flags allowed but the EU one? Shades of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics!

2: No flags allowed but the EU one?

Actually waving flags in the EU parliament is not allowed.

CHAPTER 1 : MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
Rule 10 : Standards of conduct
3. Members shall not disrupt the good order of the Chamber and shall refrain from improper behaviour. They shall not display banners.
But I think it's was rather funny though:)

btw. European Parliament vice-president and the Speaker at the voting procedure is Mairead McGuiness and she is Irish.

No other sovereign flag to be waved, YET the EU flag prominently displayed? What else is there to think of but the USSR?

The most important thing to say tonight is that this is not the end, but a beginning, says Boris Johnson.
Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning, as Churchill said.
Hehe:)

I'll believe we're really out on 1st Jan 2022 when the umbilical cord is finally cut.
"From today, we are their [the EU's] biggest export market," he told the Today programme.
But European leaders have warned that the UK faces a tough battle to get a deal by that deadline.
On a personal level, EU leaders tell me they'll miss having the British sense of humour and no-nonsense attitude at their table.
If they were to be brutally honest they'd have admitted they'll mourn the loss of our not-insignificant contribution to the EU budget too.
Westminster will now have to think for themselves instead of toeing the Brussels line

When citing a long, comprehensive, round-up article combining input from multiple authors and speakers, it would be welcomed if you could identify which clip you're quoting.

The first 'he' was former Brexit Secretary David Davis.
But the later 'me' was Katya Adler, BBC Europe editor.
'European leaders have warned' comes from general BBC reporting, unattributed.

But at least you made me read the original article ;-)

I remember this and Tory Prime Minister Ted Heath's campaigns in 1972. Hihi:)
1973 - Britain goes in

As Heath said then. "It marks an end and also a beginning".
Well, there is a beginning and an end of everything:)

Instead of £350m given to the NHS, it is going to another vanity project.
Wonder how much is the feasibility study costing?

I wonder if Boris has woken up to the fact that Labour Party 'can't win' without success in Scotland

The United Kingdom should ask for an extension to its post-Brexit transitional period, to minimize economic chaos unleashed by the novel coronavirus, said the chairwoman of the International Monetary Fund.

Kristalina Georgieva said an extension would ease uncertainty as the world economy hurtles toward "a global recession we have not seen in our lifetimes".

"My advice would be to seek ways in which this element of uncertainty is reduced in the interests of everybody, of the UK, of the EU, the whole world," she said during a radio interview with the BBC that was broadcast on Thursday.

She urged the nation and the bloc not to "add to the uncertainty".
