My PC has 2 partition with Win7 32bit and Win7 64bit I was used to run Boinc only on the 32bit, but yesterday I selected to run it onto the 64bit too; I downloaded the correct version but in setting the preference I did something wrong and the CPU usage for both the 2 cores is set to 100%. The result is that the PC is stuck and I can not modify the prefs running Boinc Manager. Which file should I edit / delete in the Boinc folder on my PC? Thanks 42 |

Go to the BOINC Data directory (default a hidden directory at C:\Programdata\BOINC, so fill that in in Windows Explorer and hit Enter) and delete global_prefs_override.xml, then hand edit global_prefs.xml with Notepad and change <max_ncpus_pct>100</max_ncpus_pct> to <max_ncpus_pct>50</max_ncpus_pct>, save the file (do not do Save As!) Next to exit BOINC & restart it: Right click ion the Taskbar and choose Start Task Manager. When that has finally opened, go to the Processes tab, select boinc.exe and click End process. Then do Start->All Programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager. If for whatever reason that doesn't work, just reboot the computer. |
