Hi,
I had to fumble around and update to the "latest" Microsoft driver for my GTX 1060 to get the OS (Win 10) to recognize it. It was running the generic VGA driver till I did get it updated.

I am used to having my 1060 run about 7 minutes / seti task. It is currently more like 12 minutes. I have re-installed the app_config.xml file for 50% cpu for 100% gpu.

And I am using a pretty good mb*sog.txt command line from another discussion.

-sbs 1024 -period_iterations_num 10 -spike_fft_thresh 4096 -tune 1 64 1 4 -oclfft_tune_gr 256 -oclfft_tune_lr 16 -oclfft_tune_wg 256 -oclfft_tune_ls 512 -oclfft_tune_bn 64 -oclfft_tune_cw 64

This is a non-dedicated SETI processing machine. I use it for "other" things too so the -hp etc settings that make the video laggy are non-starters.

What am I missing.?

Don't use the drivers supplied by Microsoft as these don't contain OpenCL, the component that's required here. You're probably running tasks in CUDA now, not in OpenCL.
Always install from http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us, and try to make them clean installs (and option in the installer).

So far, when I try to install video drivers using NVIDIA source it appears that the software can't find the hardware.

The last two sets of drivers I have gotten via Microsoft appears to allow SOG to process. I am currently suffering through the Seti Scheduler sending me CUDA and a few SOG's so its going to be a week or so before I get "caught up" and can try the installing the video drivers again. I guess.

I ran across install directions for video drivers that included starting Windows 10 in SAFE mode.

I got password incorrect locked out of Win 10 when I tried that. Since I couldn't logon, I couldn't get out of SAFE startup. :( So had to reinstall Win 10 Pro from scratch again.

Sigh. I have a password reset flash drive now.

Well I just managed to get the driver version 384.94 installed. This is the same version I am running on my Windows 7 Seti system.

What did I do different?


1) I found the setting to stop updating drivers and turned it on.
2) I used "run as administrator" after I selected the installer.
3) I did request a "clean" install (highly recommended all over the place).
4) I did a custom install and did NOT install the "geforce experience" application.

Now I will get to see in about a week if it starts processing SOG's as fast as it does on my Windowns gtx 1060 (3 GB).
