So the latest version of boinc is overheating the laptop when running both GPUs.... It ran like that for quite a while. So I made toast then turned GPU off. Needs a throttle. |

BOINC already has a throttle, via the Use at most 100 % of CPU time preference. Since all GPU apps run on the CPU, throttling the CPU will throttle the GPU. Throttling the GPU via hardware is possible, but requires OpenCL 2.0 compliant hardware, e.g. an AMD R5/R7/R9/RX and new GPU applications at this project. I wouldn't hold my breath those are coming soon. In the mean time, running work on the GPU built into your CPU is inadequate. These GPUs mostly only displace heat while in return you don't get that much work done on them. They also take cycles away from the CPU. Running work on the AMD GPU would do fine, as long as it's cooled correctly, which in a laptop is always going to be a problem. Running work only on the CPU will eventually also build up heat. Think about buying or making a laptop cooler. |

@ Michael Howard I use Tthrottle to hold the temperature down on my laptop. It monitors both CPU and GPU temps. I use it on all my computers. |
