Message 2020289 - Posted: 23 Nov 2019, 20:19:37 UTC - in response to Message 2020272.

Hi Keith,

My comment was in response to your comment that one must know how to compile in Linux to use any program. Just not true. No there is no makefile in that repository since all you have to do is follow the instructions to install all the various bits needed for the application which is Python based. So a few python installations are needed first.

I saw the word "git" and figured you were meaning to use make on the zip file files from github. I guess I misunderstood you. Do you see why people are put off by Linux? I'm a noob and what I read on the luquidctl software is all Greek to me. I saw no instructions that said "This is how you install this." How am I supposed to figure out what is needed to be installed. Heck, I even went so far as to install "pip". How'd that work out for me you ask? Not at all. It had instructions: "pip install thissoftware". Did not work. I looked at the pip help. I tried the download command. Nothing. I'm giving up. If I cannot install something from one of the repositories, then I don't need it or the headache in trying to figure out how to install something.

K.I.S.S.! If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It ain't broke, so I'm leaving things as is, well except for installing my new fans when I get them next week. Sure, I'd love to have software control of my AiO and its fans. But not if I have to be a Linux guru genius to "know how to" install something. Or even spend hours and days trying to figure out how to install something. Nope. I'd rather remain a noob.

I do thank you for all the help you have given me over the past few months. :)

Have a great day! :)

I did notice that there was an attempt to install an update yesterday and failed...

2019-10 Windows AutoPilot update for Windows 10 Version 1903 for x64-based systems (KB4523786)(2) . Looks like the update would have affected the CL drivers....

Doing an sfc /scannow and dism commands to see if there are any issues with the win 10 installation....

Running Win10 Pro, you can stop Windows from doing automatic driver updates.
How to stop updates for drivers with Windows Update using Group Policy.

Edit- Wiggo beat me to it, but make sure to replace the current driver with the v431.60 driver to avoid errors on some Arecibo WUs.

Agreed. Last version I was happy with was 425.31, which I stayed at through all the drama, on the sole remaining Win10 box here.
Sound like a clean install would be in order ...

This is a different issue... At least before I was getting some WU's to process, now no GPU WU's are being processed... It looks like I will be doing a reinstall of the drivers...

Tell me about it. I went back to work because my electric bill from Seta@Home coming up to the WOW in August, the contest and afterwards was exceeding my ability to pay.

Now I have a temporary job that is paying the light bill and I have been liquidating most of my computer hardware. I am down to only 2 computer <sniff> and a chromebook, and an Android cellphone dedicated to Seti@home/Seti@home beta crunching..... and almost enough spare parts to build another Amd box... :)

I use to get up at 4am, leave home at 4.20am and cover 17.5km through the suburbs to be at work by 4.30am, courtesy of a high speed top end Jap bike (now them were the days) . :-D

Cheers.

Google has announced they will discontinue their "remote printing" service in the next year.

I have a Chromebook that is in "end of life" which means it no longer gets those updates. Makes it sorta like a Win/xp or Win7.

I just googled how to connect a Chromebook directly to a printer.

And it says you have to plug the printer in a USB port (this really tough, you have to get it turned right side up). Power up the printer.
Go to settings, search printer, and select your printer.

Then I test printed something.....

And it worked!

So my basic worry about being able to print from my Chromebook is gone.....
Now I have to experiment to see what kind of printer controls I have.

If you are retired do you have a "pay grade"? How can something be above you pay grade if you are retired?

If you are retired, you have no authority and no money, so everything is above zero.

Greetings,

I believe I have my fan situation figured out. I will have to spend a little time tomorrow to confirm my suspicions. I do not believe that the fans I have for the radiator are PWM fans. I looked at one of the connectors that plugs into the Y cable from the pump and one of the pins is labelled RGB. Yes, unfortunately they are RGB fans. I decided not to plug them into the Y cable. I have both plugged into the CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT fan headers. Psensor is still showing 0 for CPU RPM.

Tomorrow, I will swap one of my new PWM fans (non-RGB)for one of the radiator fans and I'll bet that I will get a RPM reading. I have to say that the way I have my fans set up right now, the PC is quieter and running a few degrees cooler as well. Problem is, my fans on my radiator are 140mm and the new fans are 120mm. If my suspicion is confirmed, I will need to order 2 more fans that are non-RGB.

Ok, I just got one of the radiator fan boxes and it says the fan is PWM! :\ If they are, why am I NOT getting a RPM reading? Perhaps a problem with my motherboard? I'll get back tomorrow... :)

Have a great day, and Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating tomorrow! :)

I have 3 sets of ddr4 ram. And I knew where two of them were but all the logical places I would have put the last pair came up missing. I even cleaned off a couple of shelves and looked in the logical places that it could have gotten dropped by being shoved off my typing platform.

Nope.

However when it FINALLY occurred to me to examine the last MB I had them installed in (which was stored in its MB box), there they were..... ;)

Greetings,

Tomorrow, I will swap one of my new PWM fans (non-RGB)for one of the radiator fans and I'll bet that I will get a RPM reading. I have to say that the way I have my fans set up right now, the PC is quieter and running a few degrees cooler as well. Problem is, my fans on my radiator are 140mm and the new fans are 120mm. If my suspicion is confirmed, I will need to order 2 more fans that are non-RGB.

Well, today is yesterday's tomorrow and that is one bet I'm sorta glad to lose. I swapped the fans this morning and Psensor and sensors in Terminal are still showing 0 RPMs. This tells me one of 2 things. Either there is some weird Asus setting in the BIOS that needs to be set to transmit the CPU fan RPMs signal or... I believe there is something amiss with my motherboard. I don't believe that there is such a setting in the BIOS. Why would there be? At least I know now that I do not need to get 2 new fans. ;)

At least there is power to run the fan and the signal to tell the BIOS that there is a fan connected to the CPU_FAN header.

I am going to hit the Internet and search to see if this has happened before and what to do about it. But, I would also like to have a second, third, fourth, etc. opinion. Please, if anyone else has any ideas on what could be causing this anomaly, please chime in loud! :)

[edit]
I found a forum where they were saying that, at least on certain Gigabyte motherboards, all the 4 pin fan headers are not all PWN. I checked the pin-outs on my 7 headers and they are all PWM, even the AiO pump header. The cable from the pump is 3 wire. I guess they want the pump running at a constant speed and that without an AiO the header could be used for a fan. :) So, that's not the case. Will continue searching...
[/edit]

Thank you and have a great day and Thanksgiving! :)

What happens if you only have one of the two fans plugged in - it may be that they are just confusing each other.....
