sudo add-apt-repository ppa:costamagnagianfranco/boinc
sudo apt-get update

Now with Mint Update Manager you can get Boinc updated to version 7.16.4.
Which is a trial version, and has problems. It's been withdrawn, waiting for v7.16.5

Sorry about that false info. From that PPA I have version 7.16.1 and it seems to be working fine, no jumping task page or anything else weird.

Don't worry about that - the info was probably correct at the time you last updated. Gianfranco Costamagna is pretty quick to make new versions available, and it appears equally quick to withdraw the bad ones.

Message 2030791 - Posted: 4 Feb 2020, 13:20:40 UTC

Now, here's a curious thing.

Back in June, I bought a new machine (8747061) to teach myself Linux, and find out how special the special app really was. It was fitted with a GTX 1660 Ti GPU - now doubled to two physical GPUs, and spoofed to 16.

That went well, so this weekend I've ripped the guts out of a somewhat less than perfectly successful 2013 purchase - new motherboard, new CPU/RAM, new GPUs (6910484 - kept the old ID number).

Now the curious bit. I ordered, paid for, collected and unboxed two GTX 1660 Super GPUs - specifically, ASUS GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER TUF Gaming X3 6GB. Everything matches - no picking error. So why does BOINC report that I've got (spoofed) RTX 2060 cards? I've got a genuine 1660 Super in host 4292666.

Reputable supplier, boxed and sealed - no grey market that I'm aware of. Still investigating.

Driver version doesn't recognise new card as such, just thinks it's an RTX 2060?

Most likely this.

The GTX 1660 Super wasn’t officially supported until the 440.26 beta driver on Linux. You’re running 430.xx.

Update the driver.

Yahoo!! Those 71 Seti-v7 waiting for purge are gone!!
Now everything in the v7 status page is -zero- and maybe soon that column will disappear from the status. And maybe deep down in the database workings there might be some broader benefit. Always thinking positively...

I still have 2 computers that are not working (but did before the "troubles") one is getting :

2/6/2020 3:28:12 PM | SETI@home | update requested by user
2/6/2020 3:28:13 PM | SETI@home | Fetching scheduler list
2/6/2020 3:28:16 PM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
2/6/2020 3:28:19 PM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

and times out for 24:00:00

and the other one I remove the seti project when it was getting the above error and I can't add seti back because it now gets :

2/6/2020 3:25:52 PM | | Fetching configuration file from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/get_project_config.php
2/6/2020 3:25:54 PM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
2/6/2020 3:25:55 PM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

all my other computers are running just fine ... any ideas??

PS These are NOT new massages but I have been getting them since day 1 of the "troubles"

Firewall configuration, Hosts file entries, AV/Malware/ 3rd party internet security software settings come to mind.

When it comes to performance, HDDs aren't even worth considering. But when it comes to capacity, they still rule.

All your BOINC versions 6.12 whatever are too old to connect to the project now. You need a more recent version or have downloaded a more recent ca-cert package for SSL communications.

Indeed. Nastiest thing I've ever seen was a friend of mine, a life-long book dealer, who recently fell onto the Alzheimer track and pretty well lost control. There are probably 100,000 books in his house, and perhaps a third are ruined. His retirement was his books. No one buys books any more ... Utterly depressing.

Your friend needs to make acquaintances at your local pet shelter and bring home some new feline friends.

Sadly, he has a hard enough time caring for himself atm.
Now me, I have no mouses, but badly miss having a cat. Cats are good people.

Yes, they are. We are currently servants to a couple of 6 year olds.
