Knives, handguns, assault rifles, I suppose those debates will rage for years. However...
Where is the justification for shooting an unarmed man in the back?

Same as always, thought police. "I thought he was going to ... "

Outcome, more protests and coronavirus spread at a time that will be very inconvenient for for 1. ;-)

What a messed up country

I don't understand why they weren't arrested and had their rights to own firearms revoked. The woman should have also faced further punishment for having her finger on the trigger, a massive no-no.

However, a live stream from the front of the march shows that the first protesters walked through an intact gate that was being held open. Freelance photographer and University of Missouri journalism graduate student Daniel Shular told the BBC that the gate was unlocked when the first marchers entered. "People just walked up to it and opened the gate," he said, estimating he was the sixth person through. "It looked normal to me when I passed through."
If that is the case, why wasn't those arrested & charged with trespassing?
As a freelance photographer, he feels he has the right to go where he wants?

While Portland Place is private property it isn't the property of the McCloskey's. Their property lines were never breached, and it is not the only time they have used their firearms.
In a piece for the St Louis Post-Dispatch, investigative journalist Jeremy Kohler detailed a long list of alleged legal battles Mark McCloskey has waged against his neighbours, colleagues, and even his own father and sister, mostly over matters to do with property.

In one court filing, they are said to admit to using a gun to force a fellow resident of Portland Place off of a patch of grass they claimed to own because he "refused to heed the McCloskeys' warnings to stay off such property".

According to Kohler's reporting, the McCloskeys also sued the trustees to enforce the neighbourhood rules that said only married couples could live there.

In one of the stranger reported conflicts, Kohler found the McCloskeys destroyed beehives along the outside of their northern wall that were placed there by the neighbouring synagogue as a part of their childrens' programming. "The children were crying," the rabbi told Kohler.

True, BUT private property was breached.
Gardner wrote in a statement at the time. "I will recommend the McCloskey's participate in diversion programs that are designed to reduce unnecessary involvement with the courts. I believe this would serve as a fair resolution to this matter."
No mention of protesters arrested & charged with trespassing. It seems that the Constitution only applies when it serves the agena of those who ignore it.
As I labelled the report, what a messed up country.

So, what you are saying is that not only a freelance photographer but the press itself can blatantly ignore the Constitution whenever it suits them?

A freelance photographer is not the press.

They earn their keep selling news photos. Perhaps stringer might have been a better word, but that applies to written not photo.
Perhaps this one man band might give you the idea.

Drop your gun and that is justification for the cops to shoot you ...
https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2020/08/31/south-la-deputy-shooting-protest/
“Our suspect was holding some items of clothing in his hands, punched one of the officers in the face and then dropped the items in his hands,” Lt. Brandon Dean said. “The deputies noticed that inside the clothing items that he dropped was a black semiautomatic handgun, at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred.”

Seems to me, an outsider I'll admit, that the US is on its way back to the old Wild West, with a shoot first and ask questions later mentality. Kinda reinforces my opinion that the US is NOT a good place for a holiday.

I hope they prove me wrong. ("they" being those in authority.)

One detainee, interviewed by Project South, likened the centre to "an experimental concentration camp", adding: "It was like they're experimenting with our bodies."
