You broke a lot of hearts when you announced your departure from the boards. We all enjoyed your cogent posts.

I too have the same sentiments as you. I don't feel that the work units that appear to have a narrow-band content (if any) are being examined for any type of message; and that we are just engaging in typical University research involving polishing turds.
I also can't abide the notion of the co-existence of the SETI institute at the same University.

lately I have started up crunching again after a hiatus of a few months while we were downsizing our house. The application, when running on my MAC, prevents my printer from printing and my EXCEL spreadsheets from loading. Also, it starts up on its own after I have suspended it. I am going to expunge the application; but, I still like to have a dialogue with the cogent members of the forums. Therefore, I will reload it when I run out of RAC so that I can still post to the forums (Fora ?).

How do others feel about understanding what we are doing here and how we are doing it?

I console myself with the thought that: for one chance in a billion in Proxima Centauri's neighborhood, there just may be a civilization that has turned on their first TV transmitter or that they have spotted the Earth and are beaming a "we are here" message at our vicinity.

I also like to think and believe the unlikely possibility that we have captured such a message; but are not looking inside the recorded data for intelligent content.

Perhaps my alter-ego can express my sentiments better than I.

How do others feel about understanding what we are doing here and how we are doing it?

Personally I get the feeling were all " mushrooms " here but that's only my view on the whole thing , wont explain any further coz it will just get " hidden " by the powers that are

Very sensible.

Of course the scientists wrote but people didn't read that the project was going to need to run on the order of 100 years. They also didn't read that it was to find an ET who is intentionally trying to draw attention to themselves.

For me Monday sums it up just right.

We are talking about Chris S and his thread that is now closed.

Who knows where the best of us goes.

I never believed in finding aliens in that magical, obscure, cultural way we tend to see them.

I do belive in aspiring though (even if it is insane to do so.)........

Where ever you go Chris S always know you are part of us :)

Personally I prefer you to be here as the place just isn't the same without you around.

Me too. His encouragement to Mark (aka Kittyman), during some very dark times, showed a side to Chris that very few even thought existed. Personally, I always found Chris to always be very helpful and polite, as I have, with Mark.
