Another fine post from the staff at the Hotel K Wildlife Observation Station.

If that's supposed to be a link, it's not working.

Not a link. Just green for highlighting.
Thought it would be nice if Angela had a kinda official name for the back yard. And this popped up in my head.

Oh, okay. It went right over mine.

Yes, Pluto is a planet

"In 2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) announced an attempted redefinition of the word 'planet' that excluded many objects, including Pluto. We think that decision was flawed, and that a logical and useful definition of planet will include many more worlds."

We saw a screech owl on a light post above our backyard this evening. It is the first owl I've ever seen from our backyard. Eric has heard barn owls before, but we've never caught a glimpse of one. The screech owl we saw didn't make any noise. It just sat on the light post for a few minutes, and then flew away.

I always enjoy seeing owls of any sort, particularly in flight, they are so graceful.
Best every was sitting in my car eating lunch watching a Little Owl sitting on the bonnet only a couple of feet away eating its and totally oblivious to me. No pictures, I didn't dare reach for my camera which was on the back seat.
Little Owls, like most owls, are generally nocturnal, but sometimes if disturbed during the day will pop out from their roost for a quick snack.

That has been my experience too. We had a mama with five kits one year, but 2-4 has been more typical of our urban raccoons, with fertility declining as the mama ages.
