But many people just like complaining without thinking about the alternatives. Of course we are complaining about public transportion that doesn't work when the temperatur drops below 0 C and that the snow somehow is more difficult to handle now than it used to be. "OMG. there is some white stuff on the roads/railways/airportrunways. What to do? Yes close all transportation" Yes. It snows in Britain as well sometimes. Here we call that slush and it only last for a couple of days. However Britain todays weather is different according to a British lorry driver next door to mine who gets eyeball reports from the chaos in Britain. Aren't governments supposed to handle situations like weather problems? Doesn't we tax payers pay for this kind of services already? |

So where would the money come from for all that? If the Government said OK we'll put all this into practice but it will double your income tax, and council tax to pay for it, you can just imagine the reaction. It was reported on LBC radio that shortly before the fire, the head of the council sent out letters to the higest payers in the borough stating that due to their cost cutting & efficiency, the council will be making a £100 refund of council tax. It was also mentioned that this year the council's funds would total £209,000,000, a surplus of £42,000,000. The computer says No:) |

As a 40 year electrical lineman for a public utility in the Pacific Northwest, I had to get to work when most couldn't make it. Four wheel drive/all wheel drive vehicle with snow chains did the trick. I never missed one trouble call in 40 years. The only problem we had was the yahoo clueless idiots who were not prepared cluttering up the roads. Now granted when you get two the three feet of snow overnight almost everything stops. My worst was over an hour to go the seven miles to work. Studded tires go a long way to getting you there. Be Prepared wink wink har... Studded or very cold tires? In Sibiria you do like this. Passengers due to take a flight in Siberia had to get out and push the aircraft after its brake pads froze solid, it's reported. The plane was trying to take off from the Russian town of Igarka, but was unable to move after the temperature fell to -52C. Passengers on board the flight, many of them shift workers, apparently offered to lend a hand, fearing that otherwise their journey home would be delayed. http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-30208605 Давай:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzQUy4qhNj4 BTW. Studded or spoked tyres are forbidden in Britain, Thats why so many car accidents happen in Britain happen when it's snowing. But snowing in Britian is very rare. Bying spoked tyres as we do in our Nordic countries is not something you do. |

"Grab your shovels & lanterns guys & get aboard the rescue train". Wait a minute...this is 2018, not 1958 Mustn't interfere with our profits. WE know, lets get the government to get troops involved (knowing full well they cannot disobey orders). Ain't progress a b*tch! |

My youngest daughter enjoyed the snow in London. ;-) LOL. It doesn't snow that often in London so she must have been lucky:) Unless she was there when it's really snowy and cold, like yesterday and the day before. Now it's back to normal. Light rain and breeze and more than +10 C so all the snow is gone by now. |

One in the eye for those bored keyboard warriors who disparage the armed forces Thankfully there are those who accept the fact that there are times where there are overwhelmed & helpless in certain situations: "As a result it is estimated it will be at least 48 hours before we reach many more of these communities, hence the need to bring in military assistance and we are very grateful for their help." |

No 6' drifts in that pic :-) Luckily I was not one them. I have done "Vätternrundan" three times, 300 km it is (186 miles) . Starting at 2 am. Cold but no snow. I wonder how the weather in "Vätternrundan 2018" will be... |
