Happy Born day mate! Age is just mind set but the body gives us a reality check lol Thanks. My body has given me several reality checks! But still I persevere. Steve. |

Crunch data mapping about asteriods meantime! Our biggest enemy for space travel for hundreds of years at least. I also had the same problem trying to add Asteroids@home. Thought it was just me. At least I received new SETI work this morning. |

I assume that Jeff worked the magic to get at least some data in place. I would imagine that talk this week will be about shipping drives and the hardware needed to support it. ![]() ![]() |

It depends if you are looking for a short term, or long term solution. I'm sure the network problems will be resolved at some point. I don't know what you use for drives (SATA/SAS) in your systems there, but if you could get a pair of Small Business NASs, and use the same drives - you would have spares that you could use later on. I just priced 2 x Synology 5-Drive (4TB ea) Raid5 systems on Newegg for $903 CAD each. That's around 2 weeks of files per shipment of the entire Raid, with plenty of time to fill/unload them. Definitely not Enterprise level ... but you are only reading/writing ~6 times per load with verifying data. But do you need that much. If you use 12TB SATA drives in your systems, shipping one at a time could be fine. But have to connect it to a (desktop?) box each time and have the spares for later. Or get by with a pair of 4/6/8TB consumer drives? ![]() |

I found a slight bandaid to this problem would be to max out the work days to 10. Helps fill in the gaps. Even then, it only buys a little time to crunch. Thanks for all you guys do! I appreciate your dedication to this project! Cheers! Eric |

Doesn't help at all with the scheduler hard limit of 100 tasks per cpu or gpu. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() |

Actually it can help on slower machines where the daily returns are in single or double digits, but sadly not on the more up to date rigs. {edit} But I would not think it would help on a Threadripper with a GTX1080ti ? Ha ha. Looked at the Host from your quoted post. Not sure why that host isn't running more "optimized" with that kind of horsepower. I really cringe when I see capability wasted on the default apps. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() |

If the connection problem still happening why instead of the google transfer not use the mega.nz transfer? Their speeds are very high (ok not like the internet2) and the cost it's a lot less than 100$ per TB as posted in the msg below, a plan with 8 TB of storage & 16 TB of transfer cost just 29.99 € /month and could be paid even with bitcoins. https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=82546&postid=1916494 ![]() |

Juan, could you correct the URL to point at the actual message you intended. Don't remember any message with mesa.nz. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() |

Did they fix the problem? No news is the operative. Who knows how the tapes showed up. Suspect it still was via the slow method unless for some reason Eric doesn't deem any updated news on the slow connection problem to Green Bank worthy of mention on the Front Page or News. The network guys think the problem is fixed, but they never identified the problem. What fixed the problem? A power outage happened at Green Bank, and that may have reset whatever piece of equipment was causing the problem. Not very satisfying, but hopefully it stays fixed. When in doubt reach for the big red switch. ![]() ![]() |
