In the last 6~7 days, there has been a very steep decline in RAC in all my (10 of them) machines... Has anyone else encountered the same? If so have they found reasons and/or remedies for such? SOMEONE HELP!!! We all like to see our RAC's stable, if not increasing... But a steep decrease??? There must be an explanation to this...

I am suffering the dreaded "Retry in xxx minutes" time and time again, project backoff etc. Computers go to one or the other or both very quickly indeed, even though there is absolutely no problem with Internet access, routers or anything else.
As a result, work does not get reported. Anyone any ideas?

The current download problem has been discussed in depth in the Panic Mode thread.
Use the manual "Retry pending transfers" option in Boinc Manager,
or better, add the servers to your hosts file like this :

There were server problems last week as was detailed on the main page and in the news thread. So yes it will have impacted RAC

This means no Astropulse and that may also have an impact on RAC (at least is does for me ...)

A 'Perfect Storm' kind of thing with Credit Screw, lack of Astropulse and nothing but BLC work (its not even the stuff that takes 50% longer to process, either!). I certainly won't be throwing more hardware resources at it, to compensate, though.

Well, if it helps, we have been expecting this for a long time... I'm pretty sure all of the Arecibo work was from old drives (aka tapes) being reprocessed to take advantage of the algorithm updates, but we've known it was limited. Even without Maria Arecibo had been defunded and was expecting closure. The BL work units being targeted at optimal local star systems compensate by (probably) having a much greater chance of actually finding something!

Soon Parkes will be online too (and its work will also doubtless all be BL VLAR as well.) So we're going to be awash in higher-quality work to do. What's not to like? :^)

Getting less credit for doing more does suck.

My C2D doesn't do AP work. It's doing the current GBT CPU WUs in less than half the time it took to do the earlier ones. About 30min saved on the GPU run times, so i'm doing heaps more work per hour than I was. Yet my RAC is falling like a stone.
It's great to have plenty of work, it's not great to get even less acknowledgement for the work we're doing.

If you want to be a credit monger, the best choices seem to be any of the pure math solving projects for max credit awarded. Next in line seems to be the chemistry/medical projects. I have no problem with the higher credit they award but they just don't strike my interest that much. There is even that nice project comparison chart over at BoincStats to see where the most popular projects fall out in comparison with each other as to how much credit they award for work.

I don't want more credit, just want to receive the same amount of credit for each WU when they took the same amount of time to crunch on the same host.

A simple example: both blc05 crunched on the same host

WU 1 - Task 6302591637 Crunching Time 2 min 26 sec Credit 41.81
WU 2 - Task 6302552310 Crunching Time 2 min 25 sec Credit 51.63

Same crunching time (1 sec dif) and totally different credit awarded. about 20 % of difference.
Credit is the way we could easelly measure how our host is working, but with this difference is impossible to be sure.

Same Crunching time & Same Type of WU = Same credit not care if is 41.81 or 51.63 just care to be the same. That's all i ask for
