Just noticed that when using BOINC Manager on my PC it grabs nearly 100% of the CPU cycles. Project WorkUnits will be straved of their CPU cycles. Is there a recommended alternative? p.s. Recently updated to Windows Creator Fall Edition. No idea if it is related as I hadn't run task mgr before when BOINC Manager was open. |

Not normal. Never seen either the Client or Manager use more than about 2% cpu resources. Did you accidentally raise the Manager priority level? Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

How do you have your preferences set up? Are you doing both CPU and GPU or GPU only? If you are doing both, then Seti will run on all cores unless you change the preferences. |

I believe he was stating that the Manager was using 100% of resources, NOT any project task. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

I think it's Richard's favorite statement, the BOINC manager doesn't crunch any work, it's the applications that use the resources. I think the OP is confusing the 2 |

Apologies, my mistake, Windows shows BOINC Manager using 100% CPU in Task Manager. However, if you click the little > sign against the BOINC Manager process it opens the sub tasks under BOINC Manager and there are the individual Work Unit tasks burning the CPU as expected. Windows Task Manager got me all confused. |

OK, I was confused. Realized he must be talking about Task Manager in Win10. Never realized there was a difference from Win7. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Windows Task Manager got me all confused. Mine doesn't. BOINC Client & BOINC Manager for Windows & BOINC System Tray for Windows all have their own lines. The crunching applications (MB_win_x etc) each have their own line further down (list is sorted by Name). Have you got the Fall Creators Update? When they added on the GPU reporting they might have made some changes to how the CPU processes are arranged. Grant Darwin NT |

Windows Task Manager got me all confused. Yes, just recently installed the Fall Creators Update. I now have GPU reporting and I think that the ">" sign must be new as well as I haven't used it before. Made me jump when I saw BOINC Manager at 100% CPU! But it is explained by the sub-task grouping in Windows Task Manager. |

Windows Task Manager got me all confused. I have Fall Creators and my Task Manager is the same as yours. This is one of the reasons I no longer use the Processes tab (which used to be the main place for information in past versions of Task Manager); I now use the Details tab which gives much of the same information as the old Processes tab in previous versions of Windows. |

OK, I just looked at the Task Manager again. It is different now than when I looked at it for my original post reply. It now looks like I alway remember it before the FCU. Don't know what changed or what conditions are necessary to hide the sub processes under the Boinc Manager and needing to expand the carat to see the tasks. Personally I find the Processes tab in the Win 10 task manager as useful as the Notices tab in BOINC manager. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

Personally I find the Processes tab in the Win 10 task manager as useful as the Notices tab in BOINC manager. It comes with the OS & can be useful, but I personally use Process Explorer when trying to figure out what's going on. Grant Darwin NT |
