What do the men and boys have to do? Oh my Goodness.. I'm in two minds to moving to Sweden. I love gold stars but not sure I like the paper hats and frowns. I was all of the thought the men were sweaty lodging and running around with axes and wearing animal skins? Maybe us Brits need to invade Sweden? |

At one time hats like that, minus the stars, were known as Dunce Caps, no way I'd make any kid wear one. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Jesus Christ was never White, since Jews were not White at all 2000 years ago. Even My Catholic Sister in law and Niece says Jesus is not White... Merry Xmas... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Jesus Christ was never White,...... It's probably true. Jesus was from Judaic background, had a darker than European skin and most likely spent his middle years travelling all the way to India and brought back a number of "other" ideas. ((Go to the NWFP in Pakistan and they have stories of him from 2000 years ago.) (About the end of the Gandharan Buddhist empire and some ideas not too dissimilar to what he professed.) I have no doubt at all God is neither white or black. (Prove me wrong :)) Christmas is complicated. We have trees and little folks on trees and Fly-Agaric looking present giving geezers and flying reindeers that hardly exist anymore. Oh and 1950's American Christmas tunes.. And more money spent on gifts and rubbish than on the families or communities food or needs for the season :( Each person will probably spend over 10 weeks financial value of basic food to buy a few people some not so needed gifts on one day. And we will probably say the same old stuff next year. I like the idea of Christmas.. I wish I could become even more complicated and maybe do something completely unexpected. |

Angela, Can I add a new nuance to the thread? About movies. Has anybody seen a Christmas movie in the past 20 years (say) that didn't show somebody being buffed up or put down? (That includes Santa buffing someone up.) (By buffed I don't mean anything other than duffed... By duffed I mean beaten....) (Even the bad guys.. Who Were Probably Working Class Or Idiots..) Someone got hurt and we felt good.. :) And we felt the Christmas Cheer all around. Egg Nog for the kids.. |

Just what I was thinking... Anyhow, back towards the topic... Let's have a think. Decorating the boat, quite simple just string up loads of lights and hope for the best. Ordering food, less simple as I've no idea how many I'll be catering for this year, guess at four so get suitably sized "hampers" ordered. Work - always a few last minute panics and too much holiday to get rid of and have to keep the office manned until the middle of next week... Other - busy time of year with lots of gigs, car spends much of its life being loaded/unloaded and me lugging kit around... Cooking, well the sprouts aren't on yet so I suppose I should PANIC. Otherwise its fairly simple, get frozen roast potatoes, some root veg and broccoli (I hate sprouts, but LOVE broccoli) lots of things can go in the oven at once to roast so that's easy. Booze - make sure there's too much in, some visitors don't appreciate one not having their favourite tipple. PANIC - I can do that without any external assistance thanks ;-) Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Just what I was thinking... Oh my goodness so much to do.. I hope you remembered to prick your chestnuts before you roasted them? They'll explode other wise you know... Happy Rob days :). |

Nothing like roasting your nuts before an open fire :-)) As a veggie I do like to stuff myself around Christmas. It makes my eyes water though. . |

Christmas is for kids and adults cough up what it costs. Been that way for many years. We transition from one stage to another as we get older. No big deal here in germany as we get extra christmas bonus. Big companies pay 50% and more of the regular pay check. I seldom need that for all the presents. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

. it seems mine Mutter and Omie have stuffed me over in every way.. First they send me off to live with poor part of the family (The English side) and then give themselves all sorts of tax benefits and on top of that get us all to celebrate a rather Germanic looking Christmas where they sell loads of hölzernes tat with little clothes and fluffy beards in the English xmas markets. Is there a German version of Arthur Daily? (She isn't called Mrs Fietz is he? :))) (Mum. Nan. I do love you. :)) |

If you are going to be alone this Christmas day what will you eat for your main meal? In many ways it is complicate, yet simple but probably never easy being alone at Xmas? . |

First of Mr cRunchy, I loved your cooking. I also know he has no problems with us carnivores. As to the meal, the plan is to BBQ a roulade, baked potato, cheesy broccoli and apple pie. That is planned for 24th. The next day will be all the traditional US stuff. Turkey, gravy stretched with Knorr seasoning mix, cranberries out of a can, Joline's Jello salad, mashed potatoes real mashed P with cream and lot's of real butters , green bean casserole and left over pie with lot's of whip cream out of a can. Pluto will always be a Planet to me. |
