When did Golf become a 'Contact' Sport? It always was a occasional contact game. Players and spectators have been pelted and occasionally hit by balls and clubs. Now then it does have a "blood" sport element to it at heated times. ![]() ![]() |

When did Golf become a 'Contact' Sport? Many years ago:) I was once walking on golf course at winter. Lot of snows and I thought it was closed. Swisssh.... right above my head. They used orange balls if you want to know. Like a politician in the US:) Well golfers are somewhat peculiar. |

When did Golf become a 'Contact' Sport? If it weren't for the bad language violating forum rules, I would give a link to a video clip of Happy Gilmore with Bob Barker and Adam Sandler fighting on the green. ![]() |

Hehe:)When did Golf become a 'Contact' Sport? Adam Sandler played the character of a former bad hockey (a very contact sport) player but managed to be a very good golf player instead. Now is this unusual? Not at all. Sven "Tumba" ended his career with building a golf course. Peter "Foppa" Forsberg as well. And of course Mats "Sudden death" Sundin. Eh... The hockey player I mentioned was actualluy very good hockey players. :) |

Wilmette mom investigated for letting 8-year-old walk dog around the block. 'For something like this to happen to me, there’s something really wrong.' Just after returning home from a walk around the block with her dog, Marshmallow, an 8-year-old Wilmette girl expected a visit from a playmate. Instead, police officers arrived at the family’s door. |

OK, i'm easily amused, but I do think this was an excellent piece of out of the box thinking. Motorbike alternator stator dies. 1 weeks wait to get another and don't want to hang around for all that time waiting. $1,000 to get bike home, so what do you do... ![]() Grant Darwin NT |

The memoir by Steve Jobs' daughter makes clear he was a truly rotten person whose bad behavior was repeatedly enabled by those around him * It has been well established that the Apple cofounder Steve Jobs often acted like a jerk. |

A bit of excitement last night in Perth & WA's south-west. 'Meteor' lights up sky over Perth and WA's south-west, causing sonic booms that rattled houses. Grant Darwin NT |

Holy cow! I'd love to see something like that. Luckily it wasn't nearly as exciting as the Chelyabinsk meteor event back in 2013 (was it really that long ago?!?!). By 5 March 2013 the number of damaged buildings was tallied at over 7,200, which included some 6,040 apartment blocks, 293 medical facilities, 718 schools and universities, 100 cultural organizations, and 43 sport facilities Chelyabinsk meteor video collection Grant Darwin NT |

Ship of Fools V – Yet Another Greenie Expedition Scuppered by Ice Yet another Arctic expedition to raise awareness of “global warming†has been frustrated by unexpectedly large quantities of ice. |

It's good that didn't pop up in politics ;) I might have had to have a reeeeeeeally long look into it. I didn't though - or rather... I just had a quick sidelong squizz instead. The writer (James Delingpole) is one I'm a bit familiar with, you see. He erm, sees himself as an "interpreter of interpretations" which I think is really the pinnacle of his most accurate of accuracy-ness's ;) But leaving aside the pleasure cruise that that was, there is an actual scientific expedition that is planning to get stuck in the ice this coming winter. It's in order to measure/chart/etc how the polar cap flows amongst other stuff, which could prove interesting. Or not. The MOSAIC project Either way, I expect Mr Delingpole will do a lot of interpreting with that one too... y-e-e-e-s... ;) |

Funny that Germany still has ice breakers. Since the early 80's there have not been so much ice to break in the Baltic Sea. For example our fleet of ice breakers doesn't have so much to do anymore. So they go to the Artic instead part of scientific research instead:) Sweden's ice breaker Oden is also there again at the North Pole as we speak. https://www.svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/norrbotten/isbrytaren-oden-ute-pa-forskningsexpedition ![]() And Russians and Americans are also set out on an expedition to a land of great change. https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/arctic/2018/08/russians-and-americans-set-out-expedition-land-great-change There is a common ground in Arctic research and there is never any talking about politics, he argues. |

I used to do that all the time when I was younger! Walked the mile to school by myself from age seven as well. Kids these days... Wilmette mom investigated for letting 8-year-old walk dog around the block. 'For something like this to happen to me, there’s something really wrong.' Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. ![]() |

I used to do that all the time when I was younger! So did I. Even trusted to "walk" ten cows alone when I was at the age nine to eleven. And later trusted Jacqueline from Ghana and Shirouk from Iraq, about eight or nine years old, to walk our dog Tosca only three years ago! |

Even trusted to "walk" ten cows alone when I was at the age nine to eleven. Yeah, but cows generally know when it's time to come in & go out & where to go. :-) Grant Darwin NT |
