Message 1900250 - Posted: 10 Nov 2017, 16:54:54 UTC - in response to Message 1900207.

I just downloaded it as well. I got a manual MD5 of 450a32005c6700d7ab95284edc959572, the same as BOINC calculated for yours: that would suggest that the MD5 stored in the database when the file was created (so that the comparison can be done) might be corrupted.

EXCEPT: the person who downloaded the _0 replication got a clean download. _1 was a file size error (my download was 720,530 bytes, which is close enough without knowing the precise number of bytes expected): all the others got the MD5 error.

Which suggests that something was messing with, either, the database MD5 values, or, the stored files on disk. Neither really bears thinking about, and both are a long way outside our control. As Rob says, take the day off.
I've done the email sending thing to the staff about the MD5 problem, which worries me.
I guess it was just an isolated incident, as I haven't seen any more like it on any of my machines and nobody else reported any, either. Perhaps just one of Jason's cosmic rays hit the server. :^)

Interesting catch about the error the _1 got being different from all the others. I hadn't noticed that. That's probably a good clue, IF anybody at the lab decides to try to track down the cause. There are certainly bigger fish to fry at the moment.

Still getting no work on the Linux cruncher. Must be getting some work occasionally on the Windows crunchers but almost every request in the logs shows no tasks to send messages.

Strange. I don't seem to have been too badly affected;

State: All (824) · In progress (149) · Validation pending (310) · Validation inconclusive (3) · Valid (362) · Invalid (0) · Error (0) Application: All (824) · AstroPulse v7 (22) · SETI@home v8 (802)

Since it is Friday, I think a generous measure of Oban is still in order.

. . Well the somewhere in the universe is a matter of perspective, the server problems are what is affecting us all now, and Cognac is the cure for the distress that may cause some of us ... :)

. . Six hours? I have had almost nothing but "no tasks available" for the last 18 hours ...

I`m getting work every 3-4 hours.

. . For me it is very random, but the one or two positive responses have never netted me more than a dozen or so tasks and my fastest rig has only been able (with some jiggery pokery) to get 40 ghost resends. That is why it is now completely out of work and shut down, and this rig is about to join it. The last time it got any work was midnight local time and it is now nearly 5 am and the fuel tank is now empty. I hope they fix the problem sooner rather than later ...

. . The servers have been playing favourites ever since whatever the upgrade was last Christmas. Some volunteers have continued to get work when others are suffering extreme famine. Certain users seem to feel the problem sooner, and more severely, than most others and some (like yourself) seem almost immune to the issue. I wish I knew what the difference was that gives that behaviour. One thing that seems clear is it is not a geographical issue.

Stephen,
You did not received the latest 18hours !!! Are you sure ???
The latest WU you received is on 10 Nov 2017, 16:37:19 UTC !!!
So please, stop to write only for pleasure of writing.
It seems a problem in Berkeley or on connection or....???
I search a solution of the problem. I am running BoincManager 7.8.3 (x64)
Perhaps a bug in Boinc, perhaps at Berkeley. I prefer solution instead of writing for pleasure.
Regards from Belgium.

My main cruncher (i7 with GTX 970 GPU) has never before had a work flow problem, but I'm sitting on empty:

State: All (324) · In progress (0) · Validation pending (135) · Validation inconclusive (2) · Valid (187) · Invalid (0) · Error (0)

Some of my other crunchers are down to 5 or fewer tasks remaining.

Out of GPU work, now clearing out my CPU cache.

Once things get going again it'll probably take a while to settle down- Work-in-progress is way less than after the usual weekly outage so demand is going to be significant.

Well, it's been said several times now from the project admins, that the project needs more volunteers to crunch data.
There's more data than todays volunteers can crunch in a reasonable time.
But if they can't provide the data to those crunching now, how would they cope if more people joined?

Just asking.....

And of course: Cheers!

Well, this WOULD appear to be a temporary problem.
At least I hope so.

Something weird is definitely going on. This morning, my cache was down to about half, with the "no tasks available" message. Then it picked up during the day to almost "normal". Now it has fallen back down to about half again, with no tasks available.
I'll have a swig from that bottle, please... :-) Have a nice weekend, everyone !
