1 of Japan's 110 volcanoes suddenly bursts into life.

Japan’s Mt Aso erupts, people warned to stay away.

Cheers.

There's not much about it, but a 6.5-magnitude quake has struck Taiwan, according to preliminary data from the EMSC.

The quake apparently struck at a depth of around 60 kilometers, about 65 kilometers northeast of Hualien City on Taiwan's northeastern coast.

Tremors from the quake were felt as far away as Taipei from some reports while there are no reports of casualties or damage so far.

Cheers.

Nothing here above 2.5, the last sizable quake here was the 7.1 whopper that hit Ridgecrest CA a while back which might be 50-60 miles away as the crow flies, 94 miles by highway.

It's Peru's turn this time.

Magnitude 7.5 earthquake rocks Peru, topples centuries-old church tower.

A magnitude 7.5 earthquake rocked northern Peru on Sunday, collapsing a 16th-century Catholic church tower although no deaths or serious injuries were immediately reported.

The quake struck at the sparsely populated region at 5:52 local time, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The quake was deep, about 70 miles below the Earth's surface, a factor that can sometimes reduces damage to buildings and infrastructure.

The epicenter was 25 miles northwest of Barranca, a coastal city of 63,000 people.
Cheers.

Back in Indonesia Mount Semeru erupts causing thousands to flee.

Mount Semeru, a volcano on Indonesia's East Java Province, erupted on Saturday, spewing a column of smoke and ash while displacing thousands from the area, authorities said.

The eruption has killed at least one person and wounded 41 others, officials say of the eruption that covered villages in ashfall and saw people run from billowing clouds of ash and debris.

At least 300 families were evacuated following the eruption of Mount Semeru volcano in East Java on Saturday, according to Indah Amperawati, Deputy Head of Lumajang District, an area close to the volcano.

He said that most of the burn victims have been evacuated to the Penanggal Primarily Health Center alongside a resident who died in the village of Curah Kobokan.

Authorities have been unable to reach several other villages due to roads being blocked by mud and fallen trees, Indah told the press conference....

It seems that a little shaking is going on off the coast of the Oregon lately.

50 earthquakes hit off the Oregon coast, but scientists say they're no great shakes.

I hope that they're right.

Cheers.

I felt that quake off Timor-Leste this morning.
The rumbling and shaking must have lasted for a couple of minutes.

At Norfolk Island (off the coast of N.S.W.) reported a wave of 1.7m while at Eden (down on the south coast of N.S.W.) a wave of 0.4m was reported, but as it's still early here and with the warning still current there will be more reports.

Cheers.

Here is the eruption from space.
Thatks for that. I've seen a smaller version of it, but that one makes it easier to see the shock waves in the atmosphere.
Just an incredible amount of energy, released in such a sort period of time.

A 131.06cm wave, highest in the US Port San Luis, California (4.3 feet) was seen according to CNN, I do have a small bit of knowledge in geology and in volcanology.

I hope this new isle doesn't collapse...

Yeah I read about that, plus of course it was heard in New Zealand.

I missed Krakatoa by 77yrs, drat. Anak Krakatoa ought to erupt someday, when? I've no idea.

Yesterday the max air temp here was predicted in the mid to high 60's, the temp got to 59F at 1pm and stayed there until 4pm when the temp became 58, today's predicted high? 65, current temp is 54.
