Just want to reinforce for those so suffering..............
Depression CAN be beaten.
You do NOT have to keep living that way.
I know that now, and am proof of one who suffered with it for soooooooooooooooooooooo long.
If you are, please seek assistance.
You will so happy that you did.

The truth is clinical depression can't be beaten. But with the right medication, therapy, and some good friends, it's impact can be reduced to a minimum. All too often I've seen depressed people think they're cured and therefore no longer need their medication, only to see them just as bad as before, if not worse.

But you're right. One doesn't have to go it alone. There is help available. But until we reduce the stigma of mental illness, people won't want to be labeled as crazy and will often refuse help. If we care about those who suffer, this needs to change.

I did use the term 'beaten', and not the term 'cured'.
Perhaps a more accurate way of putting it would be....'It's effects can be overcome.'
I am not 'cured'. But with continued use of the proper medication, I can overcome it's effects.

From that perspective, I'll agree with you. As long as you stay the course, depression can be "beaten" in that sense.

Rutgers Scientist Seeks Answers to Antidepressant Paradox
Why do commonly prescribed drugs help some patients but not others?

... One issue facing those who decide to take an antidepressant is simply finding the right one—a potentially challenging and confounding experience. “Each of these drugs only works on a subset of patients,” says Benjamin Samuels, a professor in the Department of Psychology in the School of Arts and Sciences. “And there is no way to predict who is going to respond to which drug. Most psychiatrists simply try one drug first, and if that doesn’t work, they prescribe drug number two and then drug number three.

“It’s guesswork.”

Samuels, a neuroscientist, would like to reduce or remove the element of guesswork for both patients and providers. His research explores the circuitry of the brain and how different mechanisms may trigger a response—or not—to widely used antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). By shedding light on the complex reactions in the brain, Samuels aims to build a body of knowledge to spur improved treatments as well as more accurate ways of predicting which drugs will work for which patients.

Yes, Dr Who Fan.........
That is very true information.
I found that when researching SSRIs before choosing my medication course that all of the drugs in that class had roughly a 60-70% success rate for any given group of patients. And those that achieved a positive response have varying degrees of improvement.

And these drugs take time to work. Sometimes upwards of 3-6 months before their effect can be assessed. That is why I mentioned as a bit of advice for anybody trying them to not give up after a short time. You have to stay the course. And if indeed the first drug you try does not work for you, do NOT give up hope. Work with your caregiver and they can prescribe another one to try.

I have read about MANY cases where one drug had little or no improvement shown, but the next, nearly identical drug, worked very well. I got very lucky in that the very first drug I chose, escitalopram (generic Lexapro), was exactly what my brain needed. And I have had overwhelmingly good response from it.

Unfortunately, when it comes to depression, our brains cannot be turned on and off like a light switch. You have to nudge it gently in the right direction chemically and give it time to respond.

Best wishes to any and all fighting the disease of depression. And take hope in seeing what I have been able to accomplish, because if I can turn it around....
SO CAN YOU!

And trust me when I tell you that life is sooooooooooooo much happier on the other side!
You too, can be a nyan kitty!!!

Are you extremely tired? Looking for sweets?
Both are typical signs of depressive disorders when we enter the darkest period of the year, according to the 1177 Care Guidance.
In English the term "seasonal affective disorder" or the more appropriate abbreviation SAD is it called.
In Sweden, we call it "seasonal depression" and every year some percent of the population are affected, especially in late autumn and winter, but also in the summer.
Within health care, it is seen that there is a strong correlation between the inconveniences and the seasonal changes between light and darkness.

Any room for me here?
I was let go a week ago. Company found out I was looking so they cut me short. Job would have been over at the end of the year anyway and we were not really getting along. So I am out of work and looking. Always a depressing task. Still pushing but if you see me posting some gloomy posts, well just giving fair warning.

Sadly contractors in the US are all too often treated like scum. There can be contract clauses that make it sackable offense to look for the next contract while still under contract.
Hope you find something that suits you quickly and with a better employer.

Sorry to hear about your employer dumping you, Carlos.
Their loss, in my opinion.
You seem to be a man of much knowledge and many talents.
I have faith that you shall find something else good for you very soon.
Best wishes, Carlos.

Carlos Hold On! You have to get strength and not break down! I do not know you personally but I have the impression that you are a good person! You continue to follow the light in this obscure moment.
Best wishes.
