I'm counting my blessings for getting the 1080's and 1060's when I did. Dang. Me too. I got a second pair of 1060's last month before the price jumped. I can see why they had a limit of 2 per customer. Now might be a good time to sell off the GTX970's that my 1060's replaced. BOINC blog |

Now might be a good time to sell off the GTX970's that my 1060's replaced. And save up the money for when video cards are more reasonably priced. I suspect it could be a good 12 months off, if not more. The frenzy is only just getting going. Grant Darwin NT |

I suspect it could be a good 12 months off, if not more. Nature abhors a vacuum, they will be back shortly, IMO. |

I suspect it could be a good 12 months off, if not more. Or not. Just read another article suggesting that the card manufacturers themselves are having problems getting GPU cores from NVidia & AMD and pointing out that Vega is due for release very shortly, and NVidia will be releasing Volta later this year or early next. So the move to the new architectures is probably impacting on current production as TSMC and Global Foundries have limited production capacity so existing product output has to be reduced to allow the new production runs to take place, and with new products it takes time to get the yields up. Normally such a move is pretty much invisible, but with the crypto currency mining boom it's resulting in significant shortages. Grant Darwin NT |

I guess our only hope then is that the difficulty gets ratcheted up pretty quickly, the returns start dropping off noticeably, and the word gets out to all those late comer get rich quick ilk right away. Otherwise if what you read is true, it could be a long drought for us crunchers wanting to upgrade our systems for a reasonable price. |

Well I purchased a GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD 3GB 192-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Video Card for $229.00 + $4.99 S + H from New Egg Last Thursday. They came into stock midday and immediately ran out. It is supposed to arrive Wednesday. I know nothing about GIGABYTE, I guess I'll find out. IMO the price was OK , I got it to upgrade my GTX660. |

I had about given up on getting any kind of shorty GTX 1060 6GB card since this cryptocurrency fad hit. On a whim I put this EVGA GTX 1060 card on Auto Notify at Newegg this past Thursday and Friday I got the notice it was available. Ordered it immediately and noticed after an hour to check the order status it had already gone out of stock again. Should ship on Monday. No, but at least it wasn't marked up. That is the EVGA MSRP price for the card. I knew I wanted the 6GB version because of the CUDA core count and memory. I had watch-listed all variants of all 6 GB shorty 1060's, I didn't care what brand it ended up. A plus in my favor as EVGA is my preferred graphics card vendor because of prior card ownage, customer service and dependability. I have had it on EVGA website Auto-Notify for a couple of months now and nothing has ever become available. Another curious observation that Newegg for some reason seems to always have stock first and most often. I waited for over 2 months for Amazon to get my ASUS Prime X370 before I gave up on them and ordered it from Newegg and had it in two days. Greetings All Well the rumours are starting to spread, Ethereum is getting harder and a just hit another road bump. So I give it 4 weeks before there is a deluge of gpu's coming onto the market. Even though I have seen it now, 970s, 980s, 1060s, 1070s, and 1080s on the 2nd hand market, but still asking the same price as new or higher. Dont depair, the prices will start to drop once they realise people wont take 2nd hand for those prices. Cheers. PS. Just for laughs, eldest daughter asks for windows back on her machine, so I say sure no problem, 2 weeks later sees Kubuntu up on the screen and goes, Dad that looks so cool can I have that, I just role my eyes and laugh. |

I like your timeline, and will cross my fingers for everyone hoping to still do an upgrade sometime this summer (winter for you down in Oz/Taz/Kiwiland)! |

Well, tazzduke, a number of reports I saw earlier today, are suggesting that the crypto-currency bubble is about to burst, very soon. Indeed, one report mentions large numbers of GPUs are being "dumped on eBay", as 'miners' seek to reduce their losses. The sooner that ridiculous bubble bursts, the better. Like this guy? ;-) I just looked an there are a number of 1060's out for bid so I am going to "watch" a couple to see what kind of price they actually sell for. GeForce GTX 1060 3GB GDDR5 Super Compact Zotac Mini. I bought a 6 GB one of these for about $225 a month+ ago. They have a "buy it now" for $242 which is not impossible. Like this guy? ;-) Just checked with a local comp parts supplier and they have sold out despite limiting sales to TWO per customer of all the high end graphics cards. Old enough to know better(but)still young enough not to care |

Tom, are those prices you mentioned for new or used? I am an EVGA guy, and I know that when you buy used, you get no warranty. If new, than nope, that is within the realm of reasonableness, esp considering the times. If used, well, not so much I would say. |

They were used and for 'mining'. There was a listing in the US for a 3GB EVGA 1060 SC that was at about $160 with, by now, some 11 hours to run. Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

Hey Tom Just short of 11 years old. Lol Got MINT KDE on it now and she is happy with that. Tried the VM route as well but the pc doesn't have enough RAM to run MINT with a win 7 guest. |
