Heh, reminds me of the resistor color code mnemonic. Haven't thought of that in years ...

. . There are a few of them ... some clean :)

It should just work. You have the 418 drivers which supports both cards.

Thanks, I may just find out this week. ;-)

. . But why change? Those 750ti's are doing a good job and usig very little power?

Ah but I have the twin of this machine;

https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8731624

Currently sitting there with no GPU's I put them both into this machine

https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8730293

Because It was my first "experiment" with Linux and the "special app" I thought the sightly newer CPU would be better, and it is. However, if I put a couple of 1050's into 8730293, then put the 750ti's back into the original machine, well I think it might just be fun ;-)

You know how addictive this gets !!!

OK a serious question.

If I was to change GPU's on one of my Linux machines, say from 750ti to 1050's would the system pick up the change or would I have to "re-install" drivers like in WIndows.

I am hoping for the former !!

I've swapped back and forth between 980s and 750tis with no issue.

So my plan to upgrade this machine

873029

With a pair of 1050's did not come to fruition as one of the cards was DOA. The fans spun for about 30 sec, then stopped, and no matter which card was on the MB, there was no screen output.

I had intended to use the 750's in my other old Dell, so what I did while I wait for a replacement 1050 was to put the working 1050 in instead. So this is my 4th Linux "special app" machine.

8739867

Unfortunately didn't get off to a racing start due to the upload problem.

Hopefully the replacement 1050 will arrive tomorrow.

If you are just trying to download the All-in-One installer, you don't need to sign into Crunchers Anonymous for that. Here is the direct download link.
http://www.arkayn.us/lunatics/BOINC.7z

If you still want to register for CA, then the last time I registered it was a simple process. But that was before the website blew up and had to be rebuilt. You might want to shoot Arkayn
https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_user.php?userid=281426
a PM and ask if registration is still open and working.

Ha ha LOL, yes getting that beast up onto the special sauce app could do some real damage. Go for it.

[Edit] I would set NNT and then finish off all those SoG tasks before converting. There is no Lunatics Installer for seamlessly converting one task type to another for the AIO.

Download the AIO installer and unpack the download package somewhere in /home. Check for any missing dependencies for the boinc and boincmgr files. Then double click the boincmgr file and that will launch the client and the Manager.

You might have to install p7zip archive compression/decompression algorithm first to unpack the package with the Archive Manager first.

sudo apt install p7zip

The instructions for the AIO is all in the /Docs directory.

B-B-R-O-Y-G-B-V-G-W lol :) I only know the R version, never heard a G version.

Big Ben rings out: "Young girls buy Volkswagens, George Washington!" is one. It's strange how memory works... it's such a ridiculously meaningless sentence, yet I saw it only once as a child and never forgot it.

With the 2080 Ti, you should install the 0.98b1 CUDA101 application as that would work better than the stock CUDA90 application that is provided in the app_info. The application is already in the project directory. All you need to do is a Find and Replace with the Text Editor in the app_info for the CUDA101 appname for the CUDA90 appname.

You will have to have at least the 418 series Nvidia drivers to use the application. Don't see any finished and reported work yet so can't tell if you have already done that. The instructions are in the /Docs directory.

I tried to switch to the 101 but now the gpu seem to be much quieter. Did I do it correctly?
