Hello everyone, I am fairly new to seti and boinc, so please don't kill me if my idea is completely crazy :P I am using BOINC with Windows and Linux on the same computer, so I wondered if it would be possible to make the two installations use the same boinc data folder (which I guess is the one where the units are stored for crunching). Does this idea make any sense? And if so, does someone have an idea how to do that? On my system the boinc data folder from the windows installation, which is the one that I would like to use for both Windows and Linux in the future, resists on a third HDD which has neither Windows nor Linux installed on it. The Linux is Ubuntu 16.4 if that is of any use. Thanks in advance, Kayara PS: Feel free to move this thread if this is not the right forum to ask :) |

You cannot do that, because one of the two BOINC versions would then constantly overwrite the client_state.xml file with all the details of the host in it. The other host would then be detached. You cannot run the same work on both hosts either, because Windows and Linux use different binaries. Plus work for one hostID is registered to that hostID and that hostID must also report that work. So no, not possible. |
