I recently uninstalled Boinc and tried to reinstall it. I got the dreaded 1706 Error BOINC.msi not found. I finally had to install a very old version (5.10.28)which does work. I tried to then update to version 7.6.22 and get the BOINC.msi missing again. Is the an upgrade sequence I need to follow? Am I going from too old of a version to try to go to the latest? I am using Windows 10 OS. |

I've set up the BOINC FAQs for just these things. One of them in there is Windows Installer Error 1706: Setup cannot find the required files / 1714: older version cannot be removed / BOINC.msi cannot be found / The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable / Error 1325. is not a valid short name with solutions on how to fix the problem. |

Thanks for the reply. I had tried much of that and was still having the issue. I ended up finding a fix for it though. I found this page and program: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed It showed BOINC twice in the list of problems. I had it uninstall both. After that I was able to install version 7.6.22. Now if I can figure out how to get the GPU to crunch units. |

Thanks, I'll add that to the rewritten FAQ. |

Getting an nVidia GPU to run is quite simple when using "stock applications: Make sure you are using the nVidia or GForce drivers NOT those that Microsoft supplies. Make sure you have your SETI options set to allow the GPU to be used. When installing the nVidia drivers make sure you use the "advanced" option and do a "clean" installation, this ensures any residual bits of the MS supplied drivers are removed. When I installed the new graphics card(GTX 750TI 2G) I made sure to install the driver that came with the card from the CD. Boinc now shows 4 Cpu's + 1 Gpu running. Does that sound right? My CPU is the intel i5-6400. |

That sounds OK - good hunting :-) For the next few days you may notice BOINC tries different applications for the GTX750, this is its normal behaviour as it determines which one is best for your system.
