Hi folks, Just thought I'd pop my head around the door and say hello, as I only started with SETI@Home yesterday. I'm based in the Northeast of England, not too far from the city of Durham. I have a background in computing, though my real passion is writing, whether that is blogging or crime fiction. I'm not a member of any team as yet and was wondering what the rules were about joining one. Do I have to have a certain amount of work done for the project first? All the best, Al |

Welcome to the project! And to answer your question: Well, some teams have restrictions like they only accept members from a certain country or ppl who use the type of hardware the team is about, but most are open for all. Do you like raccoons? If so, or if you are just looking for a nice, friendly team, you could join ours;-) |

Welcome Alan, Teams are as much about "being social" as anything else. As qbit says, some are open to all, and others require some form of "qualification" - country, hair colour, type of computer etc. Smaller teams, like the Raccoons, can have a fair bit of banter flying around at times, while at other times everyone is curled up in a corner slumbering. Hi Allan, Come and join "The Final Front Ear". We are a very friendly and very British team. I snuck in while nobody was looking (from Oz). Also we are the only team with a Gnu for an imperious leader. :-) |

Hasn't anyone "dragged" Alan into Rocky's for his free drinks? You'd better get into Rocky's soon Alan, because after 18:00 on a Saturday it can get "a bit wild", and rookies have to buy a drink for everyone still standing after 20:00! (Tip, if Angela offers you her limoncello accept it, not least because it is truly incredible) Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Hi Alan. Excellent that you have come to crunch with us. There are no rules to joining a team other than feeling an affinity.. and if you don't famcy joining a team that is OK because you are always part of the greater community anyway. I think most will agree it's a good thing to just look around for a while and see what catches your fancy or where you might fit in. Otherwise... just go crazy and have fun. Hi from Middle England :) . |
